Inq et nunc - 54mm Inquisitor Joos Wendig !

So back in 2001, Games Workshop released Inquisitor, an absolute bimb that changed a lot of things. The main change being the 54mm scale which wasn't already a popular scale in other universes and not even the first alternate scale in their licences since we had had Epic, Manowar and all but it was bigger, grittier and more granular than anything before.
I was hooked like many people then and a 20 yo me dived in whole heartedly, ignoring the lack of skill or experience to do something new. Of all the projects I started, only one and a half got painted and 20 years have passed in the blink of an eye with my tenderness for that project still intact.

Not long ago, my good friend Axiom asked me if I wanted to do some 54mm modelling along him and I couldn't have wished for a better incentive !

Off all the half finished projects, I picked my favourite then, the young hopeful Inquisitor, based on Covenant, a Jes Goodwin sculpt. There wasn't any putty work left to do, it was just waiting for some paint and the semi samurai feel of him still was cool to me. The shotgun contrasting with the ancient broken blade (I had just seen a samurai movie with the hero having one).
The blade is from a 28mm Rackham Sessair and I gave Covenant Eisenhorn's arm, a top knot and a shotgun.

When I started though, I had this idea I wanted prominent red on him and military grade equipment (which in hindsight wasn't great since it's covered with icons, markings and fancy stuff) but it wasn't working, it was too Santa Claus than I could cope with.

This got me to stall for quite a while before realising what I only needed was to swap colours a bit. I also got drowned in way too many painting projects but once I cleared the slate, I had tremendous fun painting this guy. The extra room for details, blending and fine stuff really is soothing where I thought it would be tedious and paralysing.

Eventually, the whole paintjob and colours clicked in like I like them to and I could paint each section one after the other and not doing anything else which is a rare thing for me, I haven't been focusing on a single model for a while and I kind of needed that to be honest.

Here you can see my Inquisitor (which I'll have to name at some point when I have his full retinue done) along the very first Inquisitor scale model I did then, a converted ogryn turned into a squat (who were very much extinct then)

I'm now pretty excited about doing the retinue and another band or 2 so I guess sometimes you just take the time !
Hope you all the best of hobby times !

Eldar Wraithguards

Hey all, so continuing on my Eldar journey, I've finally started to paint more than just characters and got the Wraithguards I was supposed to paint last month. With the colours now settled I could get a little straight to the point.

Ondryel - Eldar Farseer

So this is month 2 of my painting challenge, doing an Eldar army in 6 months and although I completely missed the great plan I had built and the optimal list of entry, I still managed to paint one of the entries.
Now I originally meant to paint Eldrad Ulthran himself (well the model, not to use him as the big daddy) but poor planning, a global shortage of green stuff and late deliveries meant I had to adapt to still make it and therefore I picked the original Farseer, an absolute classic by Jes Goodwin of course.

The Eldar Avatar of Khaine

Hey everyone ! it's the end of January already but happy new year to all of you, hoping 2024 brings you as much happiness and achievement as you need !
So last year I foolishly let myself embak on a "tale of gamers" kind of challenge focused on 2nd ed 40k. After being tempted by tyranids but realising wi only had like half the points in models, I looked at the obvious choice, chaos, but I only have troops now left to aint so nothig to make a proper list of.
Then some old friends came and knocked at the door after a 10 years hyatus : the Eldar.
It had been exactly 10 years since I last stripped and reassembled my army !

The watchers of the Chaos wastes - Forbidden Psalm

Hey all, so amongst the many lovely games we've seen blossom, I had the pleasure to play some Mork Borg with friends earlier this year. Now Mork Borg being a RPG, KRD Designs have offered us a declination of it for skirmish games set in the same universe and mindset.
The entry force is pretty easy, 5 models so it's really a question of picking 5 models that look suitably, grotesque, horrifying, weird or just cool and here you go.

Night Horror Vampyre

So with my fellow creepers, we've been talking about painting some Halloween related thing because Halloween. And my lazy self wondered what I could possibly paint until I realised one guy was waving his arms at me amongst the mess on the desk.

Mordheim Mercenary band

Greetings all, I'm pretty chuffed to be able to show you the start of this new project ! It's been taking a while as a back burner but now I feel like I have the good hang of it and should be able to move at good speed !
I've wanted to do an empire/mercenary band for Mordheim for a while now and have been slowly collecting the right models to convey the particular vibe I wanted to channel.

Ogre Berzerker - C23 Ogres

OK, quick one today, just a palette cleanser while doing long run work on other projects just to keep my motivation up ! Painting Gutlagg clearly showed me I need to paint some models for fun and with no project or commitment associated, just for the sheer pleasure of painting. Like I explained earlier, to paint more and better, getting stuff you like done instead if stuff you have to do can be rewarding, when you don't want to paint, painting more but something else can help, anyway, I just grabbed this guy on top of the leadpile (literally the first ogre I had around) and just started bocking colours for fun.

Gutlagg the executioner and friend - C23 Ogres

Alright so it's been quite a while since I last picked a brush and although I still knew which end to use, I had to get a model that would boost my painting mojo up. And you know what kind of models do that right ? Yes indeed, a Jes Goodwin ogre was probably the best pick !

Now I've been meaning to paint my ogre collection for a while but you know how it is, there's always a new project, I also had this crazy man-bear to paint for a friend so I thought I could paint both of those for him as a token of gratitude for his renowned kindness and generosity !

Terminator inquisitor - Space Hulk

So last time was about a team of Scythes of the Emperor to play Space Hulk right ? And they were just 9 ? Yeah, I'm a simple man and I like simple things so 10 men was always the idea. ^^
I wanted to have a special character though, even it it probably meant I'd be playing it as a regular guy but you don't get the occasion to make a bunch of terminators every day so better make the best of any occasion.

I picked this guy because I had built him some time ago and found him cool (Jes Goodwin models are cool, period).

The scythes of the emperor - Space Hulk Terminator force

Just so that I'm honest with you, I've only come late to Space Hulk. My real first was actually when I played at my friend Sho3box's.
Now the game really pressed my buttons and I really liked the self contained nature of the project. Of course, like most sane people, I've wanted to have a 3D space hulk but I guess that could be arranged pretty easily with modern kits now. I've also realised many of my friends were into it so making my own force to have the opportunity to play it every now and then could be fun !
So just put this album, the intro is probably the most accurate rendition of how a Space Hulk sounds like and just dive with me !

Epic imperial knights - Wardens

OK so it only seems right the new year begins how the previous one ended right ? After painting the paladins and lancers, I only had the wardens left to do !

Epic Imperial knights - Paladins

So here are a few more giant robots to go with my ongoing epic project and this time, I treated myself with 3 imperial knights !
The design of them is just brilliant, gothic and weird, I simply love them !
Of course, with modern standards, these look kind of odd and they're actually different kinds of knights with an actual paladin and an errant, the third being... I don't know, some twisted vision of what a giant robot should be !

Khârn the betrayer - KILL ! MAIM ! BURN !

Hey there, like I said a little while back, the hobby sometimes comes with some form of self inflicted pressure and with the end of summer, real life comes back in the way, energy levels start to get lower and you end up setting impossible goals like paiting a 11 man gang for Necromunda and 7 models for Strontium Dogs in a month... Stupid I know but as I felt things were getting a bit out of control, I decided to give myself a break... by painting something else !
Now for some reason, a guy posting his unpainted 2nd ed Khârn has ignited an odd fire in my heart...
I used a lunchbreak to check his Background, got my codices out and had an immediate crush for the guy !

Adeptus Titanicus - Going Back Oldschool !

So Adepticus Titanicus is coming back to us ! Well of course it seems we're bound to get all the cool things back ! Now the good guys at my FLGS asked me if I wanted to try the game. Why of course !
Now I've said it before, I am NOT building a force for Epic or anything, oh no. But one Warlord simply isn't enough right ? I just had to add him a couple of friends okay ?

The Dustfarers - Ash Waste Nomads between the hives of Necromunda

Well Necromunda doesn't stop to inspire many of us and I've found it to be the perfect excuse to go back and dwell in the leadpile to find old projects that could be good to tick off the list !
Ash waste nomads were exactly that !
As you may have noticed, I have a very deep fondness for Confrontation (Necromunda's ancestor) and I have to say having a gang of each entry in the game would be quite of an achievement for me. ^^
Two opportunities have made the Ash waste nomads climb to the top of the painting queue : Necromunda and Dracula's America.
What's the link with Dracula ?
I'm going to tell you.

Lady Woodgin - Slaanesh Cult Dominatrix

Hey, you might remember the six sinners from earlier, well; I've been meaning to upgrade the team from quite some time now but was looking at how to do it right. The arrival of the new Necromunda was the right trigger for this for 2 reasons :
- The magnificent Escher models in the box
- The upcoming chaos cult list in WD.
Oh yes, chaos cults in the underhive, that's how groovy it's going to get.

Lurking in the underhive - Unreleased scavvies

With the release of the new Necromunda, I guess it's pretty safe to say many of us are all excited about either coming up with a new band or updating an old one. I'm not fond of hard choices so I've decided to do both actually. The easiest part though was to update my scavvies since I just had a few new models to add.

Witch Hunter Inquisitor - Agent Giraud

Everyone loves a good inquisitor right ? Yeah me too. And what I love even more than that is Jes Goodwin models, I just love 'em. They're my hobby happy place.
NowI've painted a variant of that model before but I was given this guy to paint for a friend so gladly came back to him.
