Skullz Adeptus mechanicus familiar

Today will be a short post for a short model ! This model is an adeptus mechanicus familiar coming from the Skullz limited edition set.
It's one of those little models I adore because he's holding no weapons and is just meant to add some depth (well and carry books and purify blood for his master).
The set is described as sculpted as sculpted by the Perrys but I'd have sworn there was some Gary Morley amongst those...

The set is quite popular and goes for good money most of the times but I was lucky to benefit from the generosity of a fellow hobbyist who sent me one just because he's nice !

Chaos sorcerers - Chaos Battle Part 14

Hey lads, Here are some of the chaos sorcerers that got attention on my painting table last year :

The excellent Sli'ith Ironlung and Jazekal Ironface

Sli'ith Ironlung
When I painted this Jack o'lantern familiar, I was close to painting it like The famous Pirate in the manga "One Piece" (I have to confess I'm a huge fan) :
I avoided the idea fo this time though I keep it in mind for my undead army if I happen to make a zombie pirates unit with a sartosan vampire. This time I might want to get my hands on another familiar like this and make him look like the future "king of pirates".

Sli'ith is a very nice mini to paint and it's cool to see the scratch parts used for other minis (the same body as for Darumog in this case)

Jazekal on another hand is a quite plain model but one of the too rare to show a sorcerer actually casting a spell (and a good one since he's using both hands...). I treated him with a dark green cloak but I sense there's something missing here... Still don't know what to add, freehands? chessboard edges? flames pattern? if you have any idea, fell free to help and Mr Jazekal here might make a comeback on the painting field...

Jazekal Ironface
At last, here is an old conversion I had made a day I didi'nt want to paint rank and file but felt like hobbying... I love thses days, you just go in your bits box and you find pieces you had forgot. I might make a series on what comes out on these occasions. I believe that a lot of good ideas came out this way for the guys in the studio back in the day and I'm ceratin It's the way Pete Taylor's chaos spawns came out. Not intended but fiercefully characterful.
This one is clearly not at the level of Pete's stuff  and it only took a couple hours to build and the same to paint (low standards help) but at the end of the day I had a sorcerer on palaquin instead of champions bits and plastic leftovers... Please share if you happen to have minis that came out when they were not planned....

(Please be kind and try to forget the horrible "magic flames" attempt on the sword, it's wrong and ugly, I won't do it again I promise)

Cheers

Darumog Lizard Priest - Battle Chaos part 10

Following is friend Dark Torgt Hellgrin seen in a previous post, we now have Darumog Lizard priest acompanied by his familiar "Imp 3"

Darumog Lizard priest with famliliar
I painted him to give him an armour made of bone and steel with dirty clothing. The imp in itself is painted in a dark red to fit the iconic satanic look though the photo doesn't show all the contrasts of the skin.
I have to say the imp misses a horn (his right horn) and I still don't knox if it's a casting flaw or if the mini itself is sculpted this way (can't really see on the red catalogue). If anyone knows, feel free to leave the answer below

At the dawn of an army - Battle Chaos part1

As I'm beginning this blog with the intention to share my vision and love for old lead and even recent plastic, I'm fully aware that there are already numerous and brillant people who are already doing an amazing  like Delaney King, Nico or Three Nurgle Flies to name a few.

I believe love of minis is like the others and is even stronger when shared.
Though my intention is to show some old lead, i fell like starting this blog with the start of armies.

I've always collected armies for the coolness of their minis and the opportunities they bring when it comes to conversion and painting. This should explain why a lot of what you'll see in these pages is chaotic and strongly linked to the two bibles that the realm of chaos books are.
But let's get to the point.

When I'm thinking about a new army, I want it to be lead by a badass motherfucker. Nobody wants to have an army that took years to paint lead by a quiche-eater who will shit his pants at the first enemy.

It's why a few years ago I decided to make an army of my collection of chaos champions and  various chaotic stuff.
And it came out I had a pretty good Idea of what I expected to be my leader from memories of Frazetta and Bisley drawings. My poor modelling skills gave birth to this guy :

His name is Lothar Mc Heix and I will tell you his story in a near future. He is a sort of chaos wanderer that would unite all the crazy ass champions he would encounter in the wastes. With him as a start I can build an army and make him grow stronger as time goes by. (some of you will remember the heavy weapon/helmet of thousand eyes was a cool thing a few years back and it kinda oriented the vision I had of him...)

Immediately after this lad, I had to give him magical support and there came these two :
Some of you will have recognised our dear 073130/11 aka "Warrior with sword and bone armour 1" or "Jeff" and his fellow skeletal companion. The little magical flames on the sword were a test which turned out to be a bit disapointing to my taste.

The rest of the army should expand from these guys and from the idea I had to make a chaos army inspired by satanic iconography and by listening to too much metal.

More to come...
