The stripper - Everyday life of an oldhammerer

See that imperial look, that nobility and the high standard of moral values Karl Franz embodies ? Of course you don't. Nothing here to see but inch think layers of hard enamels and gruesome gore effects... URGH...

But hey ! What's the matter, all we need is a good seesion at the strip club. We'll show those enamels (with Vincent Price's voice) the evil of the strrripper !

Now it had been a while since I last had a model so poorly painted to strip. Like 5 years ago actually. I'm going to show some models I've stripped before, just to attest (did I need to prove anything ?) that I'm not exactly new in stripping town.

The Paladin of Law - Champions of Law season 3 !

For those who've read about BOYL, you'll probably know that the wondeful Kev Adams is usaully around, available to customise the modle of your choice for a small fee donated to charity.
This year, I just had to get another model !

Dragon Rampant and the future of the champions of Law

Hey all !

Once again, the champions of Law are today's topic ! After having used them for Mordheim and Frostgrave, I've decided to go a little bigger and try Dragon Rampant !

Let's face it, this force started almost like a joke with a single model but I've grown so fond of them and have kept adding it new models so I need a plan now !
Upgrading the force from a single model to a skirmish force then to a full grown army seems an achievement in itself so I'd like to put borders to this to make this an enjoyable process till the end rather than stopping because I'm bored.

So here's what I've planned, let's have a look at what we already have !

Warpriest of Law - Champions of Law season 2

A bit more champions of law today but this one has a little something special !
I've been in contact with Gretchin from Greenstuff Gretchin recently and we've been sharing common interests and ideas for future projects. You might remember she and Axiom did a joint project about an astropath and she's proposed me to convert a champion of Law !
Given how talented she is, I was obviously thrilled !

The Dragon Master ! - Champions of Law season 2

WOOOOOOHOOO ! I've actually painted a dragon !

Of course there's nothing to be particularly proud of since almost everyone has but I have to say I'm pretty chuffed with having this box ticked !
I got this model when I went to knavecon in May to play some Frostgrave with my knights of Law along with my WIPster friends. I got the model from Captain "dragonmaster" Crooks and I have to say I was very eager to work on it even if a little intimidated...

HE IS THE LAW ! - Champions of Law Season 2

As always, the champions of Law are my happy modelling place and though I'm not working as quickly on this 2nd seasonas with the previous one, I have many ideas of things that motivate me.
Amongst many ideas suggested to me, there was one whih always was a bit obvious : the link with Judge Dredd.
Just what other character apart from Dredd can you think of as an embodiment of Law it self ?

Champions of Law season 2 - The titan of Solkan

Alright people, now I hope you're not tired of the champions of Law because I've decided to start the new season of the show !
I've been able to come up with a solid group that enabled me to play warband based games like Mordheim and Frostgrave. Now I've loved painting this group and I have loved playing with them too. There's still plenty of ideas I had that haven't seen the light of day though so I thought after a break I could start a new season of their story and see where this leads.

Frostgrave Tokens

Since I'm about to go to Ireland to meet some of my WIPster buddies at Knavecon, I'd better get all my gaming accessories ready !
Since a good part of our reunion will revolve around Frostgrave I had to make some tokens. Good thing since tokens are usually handy on many games so I'm pretty sure I'll find a use for them outside Frostgrave.
Since these are just tokens and not "proper" models (I'm sure some will cringe reading this) I didn't really feel like spending too much time, energy nor money on them.

A quick look into my bits box informed me I'd have hard times making 6 treasure tokens...
Thing is, I actually found many interesting bits instead. That's how an evil plan formed in my evil mind.
What things do warbands need ? Gold sure, that's the easy one, but they also need to eat like any other guy, they need weapons and equipment, magic ingredients and all sort of stuff which they'd need to buy with the gold they find.
So why not make those things they need directly as tokens ?

Wizard apprentice of Law !

WOW ! I've rarely managed to do that but I actually DID finish a model from the bginning to the end in one single session !
I've been thinking about what model to use as an apprentice for my champions of Law in games of Mordheim lately and no model seemed to fit. Then I remembered I had got this Imperial wizard for 1€ amongst other models in a trade (couldn't miss such a model for that price really !) and thought he'd be perfect !

The model was (very poorly if you look at the mouldline running acorss his left arm) prepared and primed so that yesterday night, all I had to do was sit and paint !

Mordheim Campaign Round 5 : LAW VERSUS CHAOS !!!

Alright, it only was normal to end this campaign by facing the chaos band ! I don't know if it was a fluke or a deliberate choice from the GM but it was brilliant and fitting !
Thought the previous battle had left some of the band's members weakened, I had managed to bring the band to its natural limit (12 models) and add an ogre (would have been silly to keep money since it was the last game !
Let me do a brief recap :
Round one : The lost Prince

This time I would be facing Christophe AKA Bubu AKA Bewbs.

Round 5 : PIT OF CHAOS !

Aquila could smell the stench of chaos in this cave, he knew he had some evil to smite. Mutants, possessed and beatsmen were starting to invade the place. In their unfortune, they woke a giant spider up...

That was all the diversion the knights d'Uralex needed to leave their cover to start getting into position., They'd force the chaotics to split...

Mordheim Campaign round 3 and 4 : Fight from the heights to the depths

Today, there's not one but TWO battle reports on the menu as teh first one was rather short and simple !
The 3rd game we played during our Mordheim campaign was fougt against the dwarves of Edouard AKA Bood-Wargames.

The scenario we picked was rather unpleasant for me as it implied the champions of Law were split. A poor series of dice rolls meant I had to start the game with a single character on the table and that the opponent had 25% chance of starting on the very same table side as this model... Against all odds heh ?
Funnilly enough the following dice rolls were clearly in my favour as most of the rest of my troops appeared in the back of Bood's units !

Mordheim Campaign Round 2 - The champions of Law and the quest for Warpstone !

So after the first round against the orcs and goblins, it was time for the knights d'Uralex, proud champions of Law to encounter new foes...
For this second game, I was to face the elves of Thomas AKA Pellox... We were each assigned fragments of Warpstone which could be taken by taking down any hero. The aim was to get as many heroes without losing any...

________________________

The quest for Warpstone !

The band had gained a few goods and some fragments of warpstone and they decided to return to their camp. Only problem was that a band of elves was doing exactly the same... As soon as Aquila sensed the elvish presence, he set some of his men to scout the place. They had acountered elves before and he knew this could get stupidly one-sided if wasn't careful enough...

Mordheim Campaign Round 1 - The champions of Law and the lost prince...

Alright, this one is an usual one today. I'm back from a whole gaming WE in le Havre in France to meet a bunch of extremely nice enthusiasts and we have managed to play a whole campaign of Mordheim with 5 games in the course of 2 days !
I have to say this was a double first for me as I had never played Mordheim before and never had I played that many rounds of the same game in a row.

To play this campaign, I had selected my champions of Law (played as witch hunters) to keep it oldschool and to have the opportunity to play this warband I took so much pleasure to paint.

Here's a quick (but picture heavy) report of this wonderful WE !

PLAYERS :

All the tables and games had been prepared by Cédric AKA Punished Ced and believe me when I say he's done one hell of an awesome work. I've rarely played on such magnificent tables and plenty of NPCs were just awaiting for us to roll weird events ! That was GMing brought to an other level really (plus he's the kindest of hosts).

The Elf warband of Thomas AKA Pellox (think about a whole army of Legolas wannabes and you get the idea) :

Chaos agents from Christophe AKA Bubu AKA Bewbs :

The dwarf contingent from Edouard AKA Bood Wargames AKA Bood :

The Norse warband from Lucie :

And the filthy orcs and goblins (or part of) from Noa :

So that was 6 players fighting for glory and a whole lot of other motives in a series of 5 games to enable them to encounter every other player over the WE.

Dogs of war

Quick post today, just to show you a handful of dogs I've painted for a Mordheim Campaign WE in Febuary. Those dogs are Witch hunter dogs from the Mordheim range and have been very kindly donated by the GM so that I have dogs). I'm going to play my champions of Law as witch hunters and  though I know next to nothing about Mordheim gaming wise, everyone keeps telling me I need as much dogs as I can afford; since I sense they might be super cheezy, I've decided to take a middle ground between 0 and 5  :

Only 2 variants are available so I tried to change the ginger patterns from one to another to add a little variety in the team. They are nice little sculpts although they are ridiculously too big to be normal dogs...

I'll leave you with something a little more punchy to wake you folks up :

Fresh blood and a tutorial for the champions of Law !

So here we have 3 more members for my warband of champions of Law ! Since I've been painting those for some time now, I'm thinking about making a break to avoid making this a habit or something tiring and since I'm making a pause I thought I'd do a little tutorial on how I paint them. Make no mistake, they're not up to high standards or anything and I intended them to be speed paints from the start but I find the recipes I used served the purpose of having a nice warband rapidly so why not share ?

Champions of Law - The seventh son and the roman blade

You guys know it's important to have the right soundtrack...

So here we are, it's Sunday and as usual I have a little more champions of Law done ! This one had to be special though as it was the 7th member of the warband I'd present (along with the 8th). Now I really think I'm not superstitious because I do not believe in any of the non sense associated with numbers and all but I DO follow the same rules as supertistious people because I'm a pathetic Maniac.
If none of this makes sense to you, it's perfectly normal, just accept that the 7th model HAD to be special and what better way to make a special model than to use a limited edition ?
As you may know, the 7th model (on the left of the previous picture) is the Warlock :

The Warlock was the Fighting Fantasy magazine published in the mid 1980's and while I won't tell the history of it again, I can at least state that the title and one of its covers lead to a miniature along the famous Amazone Gothique :

Champions of Law : Lord Aquila and elf

Another sunday past and some more reinforcements for my Realm of Law warband ! (greatly helped by me beeing sick and staying at home all WE...)
I'm adding 2 new members for the warband and this time I think the style evolves a bit. they are not chaotic as some of the others but both of them have been sculpted by the talented Jes Goodwin.
First on the left is Lord Aquila from the Heroic fighters of known world set :

Champions of Law - covered and naked dementia

After the 2 previous champions of Law I painted, I thought I could paint 2 in a row this time... well without a surprise it took me a little longer which means I couldn't get them all done on Sunday as usual...
In the last post about this warband, Two esteemed painting buddies, namely Jon/Axiom and Nico both suggested the same miniature to join this warband. Honestly, who am I to oppose such talented guys and clearly men of taste who pick one of the nice Jes Goodwin chaos warriors ? Good thing is I had the model so it was just a matter of getting it on a hex base really.

Champions of Law - Suck my axe !

After last Sunday's model, I'm giving you another champion of Law today. I honestly don't know if this will be a tradition or something but for the time being I'm enjoying picking whatever chaos warrior or champion I have under hand to paint it like a servant of Law.
This one is kind of special to me. For many years of reading the pages of the Red catalogue, I've always known which models I wanted. Those familiar with my tastes will know Jes Goodwin's models have a special place in my heart and especially anything chaotic he made for the Realm of Chaos era.

The famous red catalogç
The model above had always been one of the best for me, with a slender body and a very aggressive facial expression, a warrior showing malevolence and might without being ridiculously big or anything, just the perfect balance for me.

Champions of Law - Age of Sigmar Oldhammer style

Some models have a funny story, some don't, well this one wasn't planned to be painted a day before it was done. How's that ? Let me tell you...

A couple of days ago, My good friend Colin posted a superb illustration on the Oldhammer Facebook page :

What really captured our attention was the sign worn by the champion (I think it's actually Stephen who spotted this). This triple crossed arrow seems to be the symbol of Law, the arch enemy of chaos. Those who've read the opening of their realm of chaos books and their Warhammer fantasy Roleplay book will know that Law was meant to be the exact anthisesis of Chaos but for some reason the concept was never fully developed and abandoned little by little.
If you do want to know a bit more about Law and its pantheon, you might want to read this thread on the Oldhammer forum.
