Hey everyone, I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise seeing a french guy painting snails but this time I have a reason !
I was lucky enough to take part in the first french Turnip28 event last weekend near Lyon to meet a good fistful of other players to play this magnificent game and have fun.
I knew my man Jean Peinture since he's the one who 's taken me down this road but although I knew some of the players from Instagram and social media, I had yet to meet half the players so this was a very exciting prospect !
First of all, I was stunned by the creativity f the armies involved, all smartly, beautifully, lovingly converted and painted, it might sound cliché but that's one hell of a motivation to see great projects that make you want to face them all ! The tables were wonderful and immersive as well and all had a scenario assigned to them.
I'll let you go check some of the artists involved :
The event was also very well organised and we each had an exclusive score card to record our progress. You can see that the main items we kept track of were not victory points but failed orders, failed terrain tests, lost Toff offs (duels between the generals) and terrified units), that twisted the goal of the whole tournament into a competition here the primary goal as to have the most fun with your opponent, everything I believe in, playing seriously but where victory is how much fun both players had.
One of the players, Lazaraie, had also had the kindness to sculpt and cast exclusive badges for all the players !This event had honestly given me the will to expand my army a bit and have a couple of boards to invite some of the folks over for a few games !
If you know nothing about Turnip28, I very much encourage you to have a look on groups on Facebook, discord or whatever and to download the free rules HERE. If you're looking for a fun , laid back game that feels and plays like fast skirmish but also gets you the joy of pushing several models and throw a lot of dice, with a grimdark look and the Benny Hill theme tune playing with added armpit farts sounds, then look no further, it really is that good, without a doubt the most fun I've had with a single game in years.
Happy hobby all !
DeleteWow! You weren't kidding regarding the creativity and pure skill of the artists attending. Just gorgeous forces on display.
ReplyDeleteThat snail is a super cool sculpt too. Great addition.
It's only a small sample really, you can check the Instagram pages to truly see the talent on display but more than that, it was the real sense of camaraderie and how smoothly it all went that made it so epic !
DeleteThis is insane, I couldn't like it more!!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a game where your creativity would find a good playground man !
DeleteThanks for sharing, it indeed sounded like a cool event to attempt but too far away for me ^^
ReplyDeleteWell maybe some other time, definitely worth it !
