Hey all, Following
the first 4 heroes, and
the mire kelpies, I've got onto the next villains and boss I needed to start plating the game, namely the pestigors and the Shaman.
Now I know the whole theme of this game is to fight Nurgle minions and those beastmen are actual pestigors but see, I love my bestmen with fat bellies and skull like faces so I decided very early on to tune the Nurgle aspect down to make them more generic. My main inspiration was the broos you find in this absolute gold nugget of a comics : Donjon
It's a mammoth of a universe with god knows how many books and periods but I love it deeply so those were what I had in mind (although I actually didn't use the blue/green skin somehow)
So let's start with the boss, Shaman Foulhoof.
I made him stand out a bit by giving him a light off white skin to echo his unique status and because that sort of feature is a sure way to be apart from the rest of the herd in beastman society.
Rest wer epretty straightforward, I did split the pestigors into 3 groups to have different skin tones and avoid making them look too uniform across the unit.
Several colours do appear across the whole band but you can still pick some who don't share common features, that should provide enough visual coherence while keeping individuality (at least that was the plan).
Since I love working one colour after another, this style of painting ensures I can still finish them quickly enough to not drag for too long which is key on those sort of units I reckon.
I found the sculpts to be pretty smart which is usually the case with all the warhammer quest models, variant bits change the same bodies into reasonably different models and also provide conversion material for later while making the best of the sprues, ideal for us hobbyists.
I found the details and features on those excellent with the only exception of the horns on one guy being too long.
I didn't want to leave the shields plain but I didn't want to do anything too complicated so I chose simple devices and only 2 colours to avoid making them busy, my favourites are the ones with fabric and runes, much simpler and somehow more sinister :
So here we are, I'm nearmy half way through the box which is pretty nice ! I have no idea when we'll start playing since we already have Blackstone Fortress ongoing but I might just do the tutorial game on my own just to test and learn the rules.
In the meantime, have some fun everyone and happy painting !
