Metal Slug - What a tanker !

BRRRRR, PAOWWW PAOWW, KABOOM KABOOM PFRRRRRRRT !
Oh yes, you got it, this is time for the real deal now ! BOYL is coming and with it plenty of new fun games to test with the lads. Amongst those, Our friend Colin has offered to prepare a game of What a tanker ! Cool !
What do I need ?
A tank ! No kidding !
Well I don't usually paint tanks so when I do I want to tick some lines off the to do list and I had the perfect idea for that !

Growing in the 80's and 90's comes with a truckload of cultural references you just cannot escape and amongst those, a fondness for small burly tanks had emerged.

One of the first of them was Dominion Tank Police's Napoleon :

Now the second one is of course the one you get to ride in Metal Slug :

I know the scale of both is actually very small but if I could get the same look in a scale suitable for the kind of games I play that would be perfect !
A little search online and the help of friends gave the result I was after !

Now building the damn thing took me forever (three whole evenings), the number of parts and details was simply mind blowing, most of which would be hidden eventually but you have the joy (and frustration) to know every sigle piece inside is fully detailed I guess...

The whole build doesn't require a single drop of glue but I did glue a few parts for security's sake and my own peace of mind. I left many parts as sub assemblies to make the painting process easier and proceeded to block colours after adding texture (crackle paint and typhus corrosion) in places.

I used some pretty simple weathering techniques but also got to try some of the fancy AK technical paints and I have to say they're pretty cool and useful (but follow instructions properly or you could lose a lot).

I have to say the scale is exactly how I wanted it, it's impressive really, there are some flukes now and then I guess !

But of course you know what tanks are for, right ?

The kit comes with plenty of options (even translucent armour panels if you want to see the insides) like a flying base (to make it jump across obstacles) and amongst those the best has got to be the translucent rocket you can paint to liven up your photos !

Just a week left to prepare everything I need so these are exciting (if tiring) time !
More to come and plenty of good stuff ahead !

  8. Awwww man, now I can't help thinking about some catachan fighters jumping around the tank while delivering an insane amount of lead to their enemies.

    1. See, the best part is that the hatch can be opened so I've left room to be able to later add pilots of all kinds !

Top !

  10. Came out very cool. I still get a heavy bike or atv vibe from it though. I'm not sure why.

  11. Love Metal Slug! One of my favourite arcade games of my youth (along with R-Type)! It's strange how nostalgia can influence our choices when given a broad remit. My Tau army was inspired by one of my favourite anime series; Patlabor. :3

  13. That looks like a Japanese model kit ... they're renowned for highly detailed kits and frequently in places that will eventually be covered up. I guess it makes for interesting diorama/vignette options. Anyway, the tank looks excellent! :)

  14. Looks like an overly complex headache of a build. But damn, that's a cool looking finished piece! Loved both those franchises, so glad there's models out there to build of them were I to look into it.
