Pox Wretches - Warhammer Quest Darkwater

Hey everyone ! I had a bit of a pause on the Darkwater project but it's still very much in the queue and hoping to get it done before 2026 ends !
The pox wretches were the part I dreaded the most of the box since they were a big batch of 14 similar looking troops and rank and file usually isn't the most exciting stuff to do. I knew though that after them there would only be big guys and fun characters left so the fun part.

Goresqualor the chosen of Nurgle

Hey all, Summer isn't the best painting season for many of us but I still managed to get back behind the brushes to finish this guy I had first started as a member of my Forbidden Psalms band.

Nurgle Plague Marines

Greetings all ! As you've probably guessed from the header and title, well I'm still pretty deep into chaos renegades and thought I'd channel my current mojo into getting some of the core troops done !
I've been considering the Nurgle boys for a long time since I had an idea of how to I wanted them to be.

Papa was a rolling unclean one - Rogue trader Great Unclean One

And just to finish this first tale of several gamers, here's a Greater demon of Nurgle with a Rogue Trader twist !
Having already painted a Bloodthirster and a Keeper of Secrets I still had 2 left to paint to complete my pantheon so I thought painting the fat papa would be cool to go with the palanquin I had just finished !

Pimple my ride - Nurgle Palanquin for Rogue Trader

Hi there, I'm in the final steps of my tale of several gamers so still trying to finish as much as I can for my Chaos renegades. I've only realized last month I haven't painted a single character in this challenge and thought I could use some leadership. Now of course I couldn't settle on something simple could I ?
And that's how I remembered I had this Nurgle Palanquin with no less than 3 potential riders, all fitted with Magnets !
Best part of which being one is pretty neutral and could be your regular undivided chaos lord.

Since I didn't have enough corks to put the riders on, I had the best idea in the world (aka worst idea ever, don't do this at home) and pinned all three on the same cork !

Three flies and an eagle in the hive. Inquisimunda battle report

Holidays mean little painting or modelling but actual gaming so I guess it's an added bonus to seeing friends and getting some fresh air !
I had the privilege to get a game of Inquisimunda with Martin Grandbarbe and his band of Nurgle worshipers facing my Inquisitor retinue.

Hess Poison Breath - take 2

Life's an eternal circle of doing the same things isn't it ? Well my painting life surely revolves a bit and I've recently had to come back to an old acquaintance after our first encounter...
The reason behind all this is that I've inflicted myself an embargo on miniatures and any modelling supply requiring paint. This embargo has started in May and though I've stupidly (and unwillingly) broken it by getting a set of scenery, it has changed quite a few things in the way I get new models. Apart from trades (my favourite way of dealing) and gifts (thanks to the generosity of many) my only resort is to pay in paint.
I therefore got a Nurgle champion I was looking for against a paintjob. The model happened to be a Jes Goodwin chaos sorceror so I was really pleased !

Nurgle champion n°51-55 from the Lost and the damned : Phalless Whistletongue

Today I'm presenting you my first model of the year. This model is actually my entry for the Realm of Chaos challenge on the Oldhammer forum : The bestiary of the unfortunate and the exalted.

A project has been proposed to make a model of every entry in the pre-rolled champions presented in the Lost and the Damned book.

Since we can freely choose our entries, I opted for an easy one to start with  : n° 51-55

An headless champion with extra joints in the arm can't be that hard to model right?

The last brothers of filth and an invitation - Battle Chaos Part 21

Ok, so for today, Here are some of what I expect to be the last crappy pictures of my Nurgle Warband. I hope to achieve a better photo studio (one I wouldn't move or break all the time with a proper camera)

The first is the one holding the grenade launcher. This one has greatly suffered with the loss of a shoulder some 17 years ago. At the time I was completely obsessed with 40K and tried to alter everything to make it look futuristic. This lad here got his shoulder replaced with a marine shoulder pad (now I reapaired it with a plastic marauder one) and he had a backpack with guitar strings to link it to the gun. This version is a desperate attempt at reapairing this non sense :

This one is a very special one for me since it's the first Nurgle champion I got which also makes him one of the very first lead minis I got in 1990. This is the 3rd time I paint him and it's always a pleasure to spend some time with him. It looks like anything you want, it could be a sorceror or a warrior or a marauder, anything...
This time I painted the skin green although I terribly wanted to avoid it. I don't know why I didn't, I'm weak...This version is nonetheless the most realistic version of him, the first version of him had its fly parts painted red and the use of purple made it stand a lot on the gametable. The satin varnish kils every constrast on this picture though.

Apart form the various projects I talked about in previous posts, I found myself wanting to start my eldar force from scratch. Evreything has been stripped and repaired. It consists of a mixture of Rogue trader stuff and 2nd ed. I tried to modify as much as I could because some minis had been damaged and some others needed a serious makeover.
This army will be a challenge in the fact I want it to be fit for both Rogue trader and the last version of 40K. SInce I haven't played the new rules for the latest eldar coedx, I still don't see how to play a good autarch (I know I want one) and fex other things but anyway, rules will come second as they always do in my armies. Bad-ass look and good models come first.

My Eldrard was designed to emphasise the fact he is old and most certainly relying on his staff to stand as much as for its powers

The eldar dreadnaught because I thought the only options of pose would look silly. I may have overdone it with his "hey guy" look but I like the fact he looks like he's leading some people on the front.
I'm looking for a real retro paintjob on this one with lots of red and bone but I still don't know wether I want a bone armour with red helmet or a ed armour and bone helmet... The aspects warriors will also have the same colour device with slight alterations to remind of their original colours.

At last, I would like to have your attention if you are willing to play some nice game in the most pleasant and oldhammery way and you are around Grenoble in France, here is the way. If you aren't you probably might find other groups of the same kind.
If you don't know about the oldhammer community, let's just say that if you fancy good narrative non-competitive gaming and you have some little nostalgia on the good ol'days of GW, then you might have found the right place.
Don't take my word on this one, click on the logo on your right to get what it's all about.

Next post is about Kaleb since I just finished the mini with all options before he goes on the painting range, that and a silly rooster who might become the most heroic chicken ever...

More Nurgle followers and the ultimate fun painting challenge - Battle chaos part 20

Here are some more Nurgle champions.

This one is special to me since he is one of the 3 first I got (back when they were packed in lots of 3 for a ridiculously low price). It's the 3rd time I paint this one after making him a chaos marine and then repainting him with a PJ that did'nt suit me.
When I started to paint the other folks, I felt I had to clean him up too and so he went straight in an acetone bath. This time his the most pleasant version (for me at least) and I finally managed to paint him without using any drop of green. I believe the result is good enough to prove Nurgle doesn't always need green (OK the static grass IS green, I 'll give you that).

Nurgle champion with Sword
The second one is not my favourite of the lot but I do like his dark aura. I believe the snaketongue is what turns me down but I didn't have the courage to alter this mini. Colours on the photos don't show up as bright as they are so I'll need to sort out a new photography method.

Apart from the chaos champion that have had most of my love until now, I've felt it was time to pay attenton to my Rogue trader chaos army as well. It's just at this moment I heard about the fun painting challenge of the oldhammer forum. It was just the perfect occasion to get my fingers moving. Though I was tempted to enter the challenge with my Kaleb Daark, I wanted to give these guys some time and I wanted to present something "Old" enough for an "oldhammer" project.
So here are the primed participants to the project :

- 1 Chaos Dreadnought
- 5 squats with power armour
- 10 traitor marines
- 1 chaos lord in terminator armour

I've only primed and given them a quick highlight with a zenithal grey spray to give more depth to my black, but I still have got plenty of black shades and multiple highlight before it looks good.
The end of the challenge is at the end of July, I'll keep you updated on this one.

Oh and concerning the Khorne champion competition, don't forget to vote if you still haven't : http://bestminiever.blogspot.fr/

We're only 4 days to the end and 2 champions have a comfortable advance on the others but it's not too late to make your favorite  go to the semi finals !

Nurgle Sorcerors - Battle Chaos Part 18

Today's batch concerns two nurgle sorcerors. At least one of them is an official sorceror : Hutk-Nke Plague Priest, the second being the champin with bell staff and sword who looks  a lot like a sorceror to me, his name shall be Rahp'spit.

Hutk-Nke Plague Priest, sorceror of Nurgle
I'm really happy not to have used a drop of green on this Hutk-Nke, The photo doesn't really show the bottom of his cloak being coeeverd in shit but I find him Nurglesque enough to my taste.

Rahp'spit, sorceror of Nurgle
Rahp'spit here has on another hand a completely green attire but it was not to fit a nurgle scheme but more becasue I imagined him as a former cleric or priest with green clothing because of his link to all things natural. Better photos wil come to show the work on the cheek to make the cheek bloody.

The photos here don't really show the contrast and though they've been varnished with "antishine" they do show reflections because of the too strong light source (next series shall be better I hope)

Apart from all this, I'm about to finish most of the Khorne champions in order to launch the match for the best mini of the range.
Many people have viewed the site but to my greatest sadness, no answer whatsoever...
Since it's the 25th anniversary of the "Slaves to Darkness" I believe beginning with what's your favourite Khorne champion is highly relevant. If you want to vote and make people vote, please share the link and keep an eye on the best mini contest.  I'm nearly sure most of you  would like to know which campion from the range is the most popular and to make it battle against its Slaanesh counterpart.
The vote for the best Khorne champion will be in 3 rounds to select  4 out of the 12 champions then 2 from the 4 and then the ultimate Khorne champion. keep an eye...

Hess Poison Breath - Battle Chaos part 17

Now here's Hess Poison breath, one of the sorcerors of my Nurgle warband amongst others.

I really like this one because it is part of a load of minis in the chaos sorcerors/champions that almost has a "steampunk" vibe,  including some of the Khorne champions (these chaps shall come soon on this blog...) or Sli'ith Ironlung for example. Some of these are even playable as easily as fantasy characters as 40k ones.

Hess Poison Breath
For those who've read the previous posts about the warband, you will notice that I failed on this mini too to avoid the green though I've kept it to the minimum.

My main goal one this like for the others was to achieve the best rusty metals I could and to try to stick the closer I could to Les Edward's illustration colours though my reds are far less bright than his.

The result is not as readable as I would have loved but I suggest you have a look at three flies for nurgle's version which is one of my favourite.

Oh and by the way, a few days ago I was lurking in my bits box and noticed something that caught my eye :

Doesn't that remind you of something? Doesn't this axe in the shape of a pderoctacyl head remind you of a long gone friend? Someone gone too early? No?
If yes, I'm planning on making him come back in an EPIC 28mm way...

See you soon

Cheers

Come to papa Nurgle - Battle Chaos part 16

OK, this time is the time for more Nurglish love with the champion with mace. He's also missing a leg which seems to be quite common for Nurgle followers since two of them in the warhammer range and some more in the rogue trader one.

I've tried to treat the skin in a pale tone to give contrast with the rusted armour, there's only a few purple and red marks on its skin to avoid the classic green or blue approach.

Just after are some new pics (slightly better I hope) of the champion with halberd and a bonus picture coming from "the Lost and the Damned" to show our friend below when he lets his weapon down to go berserk on poor daemonettes...

I think Nurgle used to be one of the most interesting Gods fluffwise before he turned into the god of flu , acne and silly diseases. I like Nurgme when he's the lord of Decay which is a far greater concept. Nurgle warriors don't mean to accomplish anything but their will to fight, the rest of the time, they enjoy themselves having some good time with the nurglings, feasting and singing, lying on dirty sofas doing nothing but rotting in the open air. The fact they are covered with all kind of disgusting matter, their armour rusted and their sickness outrageous is just a symptom to me of their "don't give a shit" way of mind... it's what makes him the very opposite of Tzeentch the lord of change who wants to influence everything and can't let a thing be without influencing it...

Chaos Gods used to be refections of strong humain traits but now it seems thei're just parodies of themselves...

In the week to come there should be an article on real Heresy and about what is "Oldschool" and what is not...
There will be photos of abused minis, some of them having suffered torture. I can't say it won't be hard for some of you to watch but it's all for good I promise.

Thanks to you all my fellow leadheads.

Nurgle Warband - Chaos Battle Part13

Last time I introduced you to my latest Nurgle Warband inspired by the "lost and the damned" cover art and presented you its leader; th great champion on palanquin.

This time is the time to present a part of the retinue.

One of the champions I favor the most is the Halberd one. When I started painting these lads, I wanted to avoid Green as much as I could, but I finally failed and only avoided it on one of them (you'll have to wait to see which one avoided the terrible curse of the "green Nurgle mini".

Nurgle champion with Halberd
I also wanted to show an older mini I realised a few years back and that got me the will to do Nurgle stuff (the Nurgle frenzy of the early 2000's was cooling down at the time). Pete Taylor fans will recognise the influence of his Tzeentch knight with a snail body. I Imagined mine as a knight turned into a sort of maggot and fly. I love the larva theme though it could have be done better. Anyway, I treated the armour completely rusted which gave the will to work on rusted armour for the years that followed. You can also notice at the time I had not yet decided to avoid the "clean greens" I despise now... The mini does not realy fit with the rest of the flock but it takes 2 places in the unit which helps finish the last rank in a unit and can count as a standard bearer...

The warband in itself is not truly complete since I have not ticked all the minis on the list.

Since I'd like to field Mutander Bubonicus as well, this warband is clearly not over, especially if I consider adding more exotic stuff such as beastmen, thugs or chaos dwarves...

Nurgle Warband - Chaos Battle part 12

This time I finally managed to nail most of my nurgle Warband at once. I took a series of photos to field them at once on a table :

I'm gonna show them one after another so the first of the lot will obviously be the champion on his nurgling palanquin.

The warband in itself was designed to try a new approach (for me) as painting was concerned. I was trying to avoid the "clear greens with too good to be true stains" and got most my inspiration from the "lost and the damned" cover with the warriors clad in rusted armours and brown outfits.
A little detail is that these minis almost met their doom when I varnished them with an outside temperature of 2°C with my airbrush. The result was a perfect white layer making them useless and the guys at my local store saved them with a new layer of love and antishine spray (hence the weird brightness on some of them).

The result is far less readable than what I expected but gives the overall ascpect I wanted.

Nurgle Champion on Palanquin

Music lovers will have recognised "Fat Albert Rotunda" from Herbie Hancock below my champion but that was just to give a groovy tooch to the photo...
Old lead lovers will have noticed the lad lost a sword and gained an heretic plastic axe. Well I have to confess in the days of old when I got my young hands on this fellow, I had the most silly idea to give him a tech weapon in the form of a chainsword. 1 year ago when I finally decided to give the guy a good acetone bath to get him a good paintjob, I granted him the best I had which was this axe. Now it looks oversized to me but HEY how more EPIC 28mm can this be?
