Pox Wretches - Warhammer Quest Darkwater

 

Hey everyone ! I had a bit of a pause on the Darkwater project but it's still very much in the queue and hoping to get it done before 2026 ends ! 
The pox wretches were the part I dreaded the most of the box since they were a big batch of 14 similar looking troops and rank and file usually isn't the most exciting stuff to do. I knew though that after them there would only be big guys and fun characters left so the fun part.

People familiar with the Oldhammer scene will probably be familiar with Bryan Ansell who founded Citadel, bought Games workshop and propelled the whole warhammer universe into this compelling mammoth that's been part of my life and many others' for ages.

Chaos Space Marines - Blackstone Fortress completed !

So with the release of warhammer Quest : Darkwater, my butterfly attention got back to Blackstone Fortress which we started playing with the kids. Having cleared a few runs, I could feel the impending need to have all the villains available soon.. Luckily, I only really had 3 left to do : the 2 chaos space marines and the chaos Lord Obsidius Mallex.

Chaos Cultists (an unhealthy number of) - Blackstone Fortress and Dark Vengeance

Hey all ! I'm pretty sure we all have in common the fact that our desk has works in Progress that have been here for ages right ? Well for the past few months, I've tried to clear my desk from those projects by finishing one after the other to both clear the desk and my mind from those and I have to say it's been a very rewarding process !

Chaos Dreadfiler

In the line of  models I've had half painted on my desk for way to long, this one was the biggest. I've started it in October 2022 and although the conversion process went fast and the painting start as well, I somehow stalled and moved onto several other projects like usual !
But I'm firmly keeping my pace on unfinished paintjobs and I had decided this one was next !

The conversion is based on a chaod Dreadnought resculpt by Drew Williams which was kindly donated to me. The model is supposed to be truescale with renegades making it considerably bigger than the original dreadnaughts I love.

Traitor Command - Blackstone Fortress

 

Hey all ! It's mid 2023 and of course I'm still on Blackstone Fortress ! I'm actually clearing the desk from any half painted models and this pair has been sittig on the desk since I moved house  last October ! I had this models up to the end of the "shit stage", you know, that dreadful stage where you just block colours in, it's taking ages and it ends up looking like playmobils ? The fun usuallt starts after that stage and for some reason I stopped there on these. Good thing though is that resuming work on them was a joy since all I had left were the fun bits and they're amazing models to begin with.

Warcry Scions of the Flame

Happy new year everyone ! This one is starting ON FIRE ! Well I actually finished those on the the 31st of december but taking pictures and everything between too much food and beverages meant they're airing in 2023, at least I'll start soon enough with painted models !

Like often, I'm a bit (very) late on some trends so I'm only painting my first real band for Warcry now although I did get the models right when they were released.

Hi everyone ! Long time since last time heh ? Well I've been busy moving house so getting some hobby time and a proper desk has taken a while but all worth it !

I've decided that moving house was going to be the opportunity to move on and following the choixe to clear my desk as much as possible, I've decided to finish some projects that have had way too much desk time !
This one is probably one of the most iconic cases since it's already undergone 2 house moves. This project was started a bit before the 28mag Ian Miller project and although I was very into it during conversion and building, I stalled at the painting phase, not knowing where I wanted to go.

Hey all, so amongst the many lovely games we've seen blossom, I had the pleasure to play some Mork Borg with friends earlier this year. Now Mork Borg being a RPG, KRD Designs have offered us a declination of it for skirmish games set in the same universe and mindset.

The entry force is pretty easy, 5 models so it's really a question of picking 5 models that look suitably, grotesque, horrifying, weird or just cool and here you go.

Hey everyone ! Now I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in the northern hemisphere but temperatures here are not the most painter friendly at the moment right ? They're not paint friendly either but I had a WE on my own and felt like making the best of it so put 10 hours of historical podcast (unusual for me) and just went through the motions.

Rogue Psykers - Blackstone Fortress

So it might seem I'm on a good roll painting wise and I am, there's also the fact I'm running out of space in my desk and decided to finish all the works in progress and that means a very fast output since more than half the work was done in most cases (it also explains the meager output a few months ago).

But hey, this is not about numbers (not entirely) but what we do and I'm back on Blackstone Fortress !
Having failed my self imposed deadline of finishing the corebox in 2021, I'm not setting any date but I want it out of the way the sooner I can !

Negavolt Cultists - Blackstone Fortress

Hi everyone ! It's a weird time right now at home with some real life getting in the way but good stuff ! I have a fair few unblogged painted things so I'll try and clear the desk (and mind) of that unfinished business !
Keeping my 2021 resolution to finish the content of the core box of Blackstone Fortress, here are 4 new villains, the Negavolt cultists !

Since the traitor guards are coming soon, I wanted to test some speed painting techniques on those to gather a bit of XP. Almost all parts you see have had only 2 coats of paint with the exception of the red cables. It's either just contrast/highlights or glaze/wash or sometimes just one wash or contrast coat with the cables getting a wash and two highlights to make them pop a bit and the glowing parts getting 3 shades of red.
It's not spectacular from up close but at tabletop distance it's more than enough to get the effect working and that's where I'll try to go with the 34 cultists on the table right now.

Unlike the beastmen, those models are very samey-samey which is a pity, as a whole, I think the models from blackstone fortress are some of the most clever and neat design from the past few years and the combinations and variants you can find with the beastmen or psykers is excellent. I wish the negavolt cultists had got that sort of treatment bt they remain excellent models which really convey the right mood.

All in all, despite not looking at the box art, I've managed to get a very similar colour scheme, guess that's what suits them !

Anyway, they were fast and rewarding models to have done so I'm pretty chuffed, more to come soon so happy painting you all !

 

Chaos Beastmen - Blackstone Fortress

 

Hey everyone ! A little more Blackstone fortress again ! 

Those groups of 4 villains have been extremely rewarding lately, a great achievement/effort ratio and therefore perfect hobby mojo boosters so I've continued with the beastmen.

These guys might not look like the pick of the box amongst all the wonderful models available but I've quickly grown fond of them and how very smart the design is.

Chaos Space Marine Librarian

Alrights folks, so an unexpected one today ! There's been a painting challenge on the Oldhammer FB page and the theme is #justthetwoofus, so basically paint a pair of models that have a connection of some kind.
It only took a few seconds for me to realise this could be the opportunity to cross another item off the Realm of Chaos army list so I picked this guy :

 Greetings all ! As you've probably guessed from the header and title, well I'm still pretty deep into chaos renegades and thought I'd channel my current mojo into getting some of the core troops done !
I've been considering the Nurgle boys for a long time since I had an idea of how to I wanted them to be.

 Alright everyone, now amongst this very unexpected but enjoyable chaotic derailing of my painting queue, there has been an unexpected but enjoyable disturbance (it wouldn't be fun otherwise).
My friends Grove and Crooks were just posting awesome WIP pics of chaos champions up to the post where the urge to build myself one was unbearable.

Chaos Traitor Techmarines

So little time ago, I felt the urge to get rid of a robot conversion that had been wandering on my table for waaaay too long. Little time after that , That damned Nico came up with some amazing renegade conversions that left me unable not to get back onto my own renegades.
Thing is, I've had a group of techmarines planned for a while for this arm force (not doing an army) since I have plenty of vehicles and some more troops requiring some.

Chaos Corrupted Colossus Robot

 

 

So, robots...
Robots are extremely cool period. Chaos is extremely cool as well period. Now Chaos robots are bound to be just super duper cool right ? Well they are.

See, I've had this Colossus wreck in the leadpile for ages and it was so damaged I just figured I could try and hack it to repose it with little risk. 

Many will remember the "special" alternative  AI programming rules for robots but I have to say I loved the many styles of them :

Now of course, the Colossus is extremely familiar to those who love the ABC warriors and their leader Hammerstein with his trademark hammer for hand :

Thing is though, I somehow lost tha hammer hand. And it looks silly let's face it, no elbow or anything ? Really ?
Anyway I need my robot to feel corrupted so I tought some organic arm sprouting out of its shoulder would look cool and somehow reminiscent of something I LOVE (like Gooseflesh inducingly good :

 So that's what I came up with :

The bloter is a modern era version for the simple reason I didn't have any other togive him, I felt like connecting teh weapon to the frame with a sick organic intestin would convey the sense of fresh corruption I was after :

 

 

In my quest to cover as many entries for this army little force (I don't do armies you know), I'm quite chuffed to have this one covered, this makes the need of a few techmarines even greater now but evrything in its own time I guess !
