Pox Wretches - Warhammer Quest Darkwater

Hey everyone ! I had a bit of a pause on the Darkwater project but it's still very much in the queue and hoping to get it done before 2026 ends !
The pox wretches were the part I dreaded the most of the box since they were a big batch of 14 similar looking troops and rank and file usually isn't the most exciting stuff to do. I knew though that after them there would only be big guys and fun characters left so the fun part.

Hey all, Following the first 4 heroes, and the mire kelpies, I've got onto the next villains and boss I needed to start plating the game, namely the pestigors and the Shaman.

The Four Starter Heroes - Warhammer Quest Darkwater

Hey all ! So after taking a little detour back to Blackstone Fortress (which I'm really glad I did since we've now played several games or it), I'm finally back on track with Darkwater !
Of course, 3 months later, ut is no longer the hot topic and the world has moved on with it but I'm not a trend chaser so I can live with that  fine.

New Warhamer Fantasy Roleplay character

Hey everyone, if you've paid attention to my latest battle report and you're super focused on details, you might have noticed my character loked a little different from usual. Following the latest developments, including a change of class (from pit fighter to Judiciary champion), some stat changes (like unlocking more attacks and gear (buying a full plate armour last game), I thought I had to update my model accordingly !

New Kev Adams Goblins by OSM

Hey all, so OldSchool Miniatures are running a new Kickstarter for goblins sculpted by the goblinmaster himself, Kev Adams and they've kindly asked me to paint a few before the end.

Arabian fighters by Lafig miniatures

Hey everyone, first post of the year so wishing you all the best for 2025 ! I've been quite busy, with house works and even some hobby but the list of painted and unblogged models is getting out of hands so here's the first project for you ! Lafig Miniatures is realeasing a brand new ambitious project of a skirmish game and the first band for this game are Sheik Hait-Malaif’s Sandcrawlers which will be available soon on Kickstarter HERE.

Fantasy adventurer scout

Hey all, a quick and easy one this time, just a palette cleanser to remind me howfun and pleasant those old citadel models are, after painting bulks or big models, this one felt so refreshing !

BOYL exclusive Necromancer by Bob Olley

Hey all ! I'm in the middle of a stupid number of projects at the moment but I wanted to clear a few items rapidly lately. One of which is going through my BOYL exclusives and getting them all painted to show some gratitude ! Amongst the ones I hadn't painted, there was this Necromancer by the incredible Bob Olley from BOYL 2022 (iirc).

Ratmen by Maraud Miniatures

Hey all ! After painting the Dark Goblins and the Troll by Maraud Miniatures, I've finally painted the evil ratmen ! Like for the other models, the sculpts are done by the excellent Alexandre Vallet with sketches from Sceptik le Sloucheur.

Warcry Scions of the Flame

Happy new year everyone ! This one is starting ON FIRE ! Well I actually finished those on the the 31st of december but taking pictures and everything between too much food and beverages meant they're airing in 2023, at least I'll start soon enough with painted models !
Like often, I'm a bit (very) late on some trends so I'm only painting my first real band for Warcry now although I did get the models right when they were released.

Goresqualor the chosen of Nurgle

Hey all, Summer isn't the best painting season for many of us but I still managed to get back behind the brushes to finish this guy I had first started as a member of my Forbidden Psalms band.

Le Chevalier Ermite de Malmont

Hey all ! So today I'm bringing you one special model !
The chevalier Ermite de Malmont is one of those hobby grails (no pun, almost) for many, an iconic sculpt, not easy to source and therefore quite desirable. "Stop bragging JB, you got one, OK don't rub it into our face !"
Not quite.
The model has been sent to me by a nice friend for me to paint as payment for some models. I would argue that painting a beauty like that is a reward in itself but so was the deal. Of course, with the million projects in progress in my head and on my desk, it took me quite a while to get onto it but since I launched a paintig contest focused on the work of Gary Morley this month on the Oldhammer facebook page, I thought I'd use the opportunity to paint it !

Fantasy dwarf band

Ever since my last Mordheim campaign, I knew I wanted to build a dwarf band. But you probably know how life gets in the way and this project somehow got postponed for about 5 years, yikes !
that does mean I was able to add a few models I deemed worthy to my selection and it was a very satisfying moment to finally scratch all those off the list !

Necromancers - Legions of Nagash

Hey everyone, so little side step here as I took the opportunity to join a group challenge and clear the desk a little !

When Warcry was released, I didn't feel like starting a fresh new band and the ones that I fancied weren't released yet so I thought the smart thing to do was to build on top of my sepulchral guard, I just needed a necromancer (quickly bought and built) and a few more skeletons (quickly built from kits I had around) and that was the promise of great things. Fast forward a few months, world pandemic and all the stuff you know and I hadn't touched any of my additions when Sho3box offered a joint challenge for us to each paint a couple of wizard/apprentice in anticipation of Frostgrave Season 2.

Empire mercenary band - Mordheim

Alright, one project done ! After doing the first 6 members if this band in groups of 3 I thought I had the colour scheme well in hand to finish the last 7 in one go !
this takes me to a total of 13 (eeew scary...) and provides me with many options to grow the band throughout a campaign I hope.

Mordheim mercenary band - More puff and more slash

Hey there, still working on the mercenary band for Mordheim, I've decided to go with the big hitters now with a champion and 2 sword players.
This guys still have the extravagant style the others had but you can also tell they're more about showing giant pieces of steel through other people's skulls than anything !

Mordheim Mercenary band

Greetings all, I'm pretty chuffed to be able to show you the start of this new project ! It's been taking a while as a back burner but now I feel like I have the good hang of it and should be able to move at good speed !
I've wanted to do an empire/mercenary band for Mordheim for a while now and have been slowly collecting the right models to convey the particular vibe I wanted to channel.

Ogre Berzerker - C23 Ogres

OK, quick one today, just a palette cleanser while doing long run work on other projects just to keep my motivation up ! Painting Gutlagg clearly showed me I need to paint some models for fun and with no project or commitment associated, just for the sheer pleasure of painting. Like I explained earlier, to paint more and better, getting stuff you like done instead if stuff you have to do can be rewarding, when you don't want to paint, painting more but something else can help, anyway, I just grabbed this guy on top of the leadpile (literally the first ogre I had around) and just started bocking colours for fun.

Gutlagg the executioner and friend - C23 Ogres

Alright so it's been quite a while since I last picked a brush and although I still knew which end to use, I had to get a model that would boost my painting mojo up. And you know what kind of models do that right ? Yes indeed, a Jes Goodwin ogre was probably the best pick !

Now I've been meaning to paint my ogre collection for a while but you know how it is, there's always a new project, I also had this crazy man-bear to paint for a friend so I thought I could paint both of those for him as a token of gratitude for his renowned kindness and generosity !

Marauder Beastmaster and Chaos hound - Make a Trish !

Well this pair was unexpected but it was a real refreshing one !
If you're on Facebook and follow oldschool and oldhammer miniature pages, you might have read some of Trish Carden's excellent posts about her work. Like many people, I've found those posts to be extremely enjoyable because of the hindsight it provides on the design and constraints of the time.
I think I'm also fascinated because to be perfectly honest here, I just never had considered which sculpts were hers and which were Aly's amongst the famous Marauder range. I can never tell which Perry twin sculpted what and I really find it's a pity we don't aknowledge sculptors more.
With all that in mind, some friends and I thought about painting some of her work and make Trish pick her favourite. Like all brats, we want to be mom's favourite y'know. ^^

I had a few possible candidates but I wanted something iconic I knew I could paint quickly and then I just remembered Trish posting about the Beatsmaster !

I realise I'm missing the scorpion tailed hound but I'll get it at some point ... I hope.

The good point about it is that she gave me tips about painting in her description of the models :

The Beastmaster himself had to look imposing and strong, able to handle his hideous Hounds. He’s in total control of the beasts and I imagined his eyes blazing red through the slit in his helmet as he used his whip to keep the hounds in line.
I gave him a mix of cloth, armour and fur to make him interesting to paint with the chance to use lots of colour and texture.
His hounds are both blessed differently by chaos, one with a scorpion tail and the other with two ferocious heads. Neither of them EVER sit to order!

My painting output is far from what it was last year and I'm bound by several comitments so these two were absolutely great to get my mojo back and tick to icons off the list. Just so that it felt extra useful, I tied them with the chaos Thug I had painted some time ago for Gorechosen and I think they make a good pair !

Next on Leadplague, maybe some monopose monstrosity and surely some fun Space Hulk stuff !
