Eldar Wraithguards

Hey all, so continuing on my Eldar journey, I've finally started to paint more than just characters and got the Wraithguards I was supposed to paint last month. With the colours now settled I could get a little straight to the point.

Ondryel - Eldar Farseer

So this is month 2 of my painting challenge, doing an Eldar army in 6 months and although I completely missed the great plan I had built and the optimal list of entry, I still managed to paint one of the entries.

Now I originally meant to paint Eldrad Ulthran himself (well the model, not to use him as the big daddy) but poor planning, a global shortage of green stuff and late deliveries meant I had to adapt to still make it and therefore I picked the original Farseer, an absolute classic by Jes Goodwin of course.

The Eldar Avatar of Khaine

Hey everyone ! it's the end of January already but happy new year to all of you, hoping 2024 brings you as much happiness and achievement as you need !

So last year I foolishly let myself embak on a "tale of gamers" kind of challenge focused on 2nd ed 40k. After being tempted by tyranids but realising wi only had like half the points in models, I looked at the obvious choice, chaos, but I only have troops now left to aint so nothig to make a proper list of.
Then some old friends came and knocked at the door after a 10 years hyatus : the Eldar.
It had been exactly 10 years since I last stripped and reassembled my army !

#dressawilly the painting challenge from TheStillTower !

Hey all ! With the end or Orctober, I wanted to take the opportunity to post these guys which have a bit of relevance with the topic. A while ago, thestilltower (check his Instagram HERE) launched a painting challenge around a dolly he made of Willy... which participants had to dress, hence #dressawilly, get it ?

2nd edition Marine for the #90smarinechallenge

So if you're keeping track of what happens on  Instagram, you might have heard of Darren Latham's painting challenge #90smarinechallenge which requires participants to paint a plastic 2nd edition marine from the starter box.
I found this would be the perfect occasion to add yet another Scythe to the chapter so knowing full well I wasn't gonna paint the nicest, I had to at least pick THE BEST chapter there is : the Scythes of teh Emperor (no question).

The Adeptus Painticus

Hey, so here's my second entry for the Gary MOrley challenge on the oldhammer facebook page. The Adeptus Painticus ! Honestly, how's that not the best model to enter for a painting challenge ?

Get over here ! - Chibi Ninja from Super Dungeon Explore

And now for something completely different... I've recently been offered to take part in a fun painting challenge to paint chibi models from Super Dungeon Explore ! Some painters offered to send some of their models (thanks Audrey !) so that many could try their hand on this kind of subject so I took the offer to paint something different for a change.

Group painting, old chaos warrior and 200th model of the year !

So the other WE I was at the Octogone again in Lyon, a gaming convention. This year, I wasn't trying to promote Oldhammer (much) but took part in a painting get together with some pals !
I have to say I rarely paint in a group and have always had a lonely way of modelling but I have to say it's quite fun to have friends around you can share painting tips, paint pots, glue or whatever in a joyful mess !

Life in 2 colours - a painting exercise

And now for something completely different and a little unexpected, here's a little painting exercise ! I've decided to take part in a little online painting challenge a couple of weeks ago. The rules were pretty simple : the only pots available had to be black, white, turquoise and orange !

Working with a limited palette should be OK, I'm used to it I thought... And then reality struck me in the face...

If model painters are ranked from "tournament minimum 3 colours" to "master level multi awarded god" well.... I guess I'm firmly stuck somewhere in the grey area in between.

Now what drives my painting ?

Halo Troynib - Life of a mutant in the underhive

OK, so like always, when you have a deadline, you always believe you have plenty of time just to realise 2 days before you don't. ALWAYS.

This time, there was a modeling challenge on the Emporium FB page and though I really considered giving up, the idea to get my model judged by Andy Chambers was too exciting to falter.

The Emperor of Mankind

The Emperor of Mankind... What more iconic character in the vast 40k universe ? None I reckon. To date though there still isn't an "official" model of him despite the many depictions of him throughout the last 3 decades. I was kindly offered this version in a trade and with the renewed interest in 40k due to the release of its 8th edition, I thought I'd finish a model that had waited half finished for too long.

Studio/9/art give away !

Blogging about models I didn't paint myself is kinda of lame I know but this one was one I won during one of Studio/9/art's give aways !

The model is a converted Goblin King from the Hobbit set with tyrannid pieces and it's been skillfully painted by Stéphane Guèbe.

Corum and Jhary - The eternal champion and companion

The eternal champion, if there ever was universes that inspired the warhammer setting, Michael Moorcock's epic saga has got to stand on top of the list !

Now some time ago, Colin suggested that we could have a game at BOYL including different incarnations of the eternal champion. That idea did hit bull's eye in our minds and like the others I saw the perfect opportunity to tick a few boxes from my ever growing "to do" list.

A little while ago, I was even mentioning something about Corum and the other champions...

YO HO HO and a can of Spook ! - Dave the Space Pirate

Just a quick one today after the very heart warming response to my Inquisition band. I've decided to paint a space pirate for fun because pirates are cool and space is so space pirates have to be extra cool right ?

Sergent Trepas and acolyte

Alright, after a quick and silly group painting session, it was time to get back on my Inq28 painting challenge.

Since I've already built 6 of them (and am in progress on the 7th because even numbers look odd... well strange, you know what I mean), I just had to pick a couple I could do rapidly and here are the guys I picked.

The PROPAINTING challenge goblin

The other night, a couple of the WIPsters and friends gathered for a little video chat painting session with the silly idea to paint a model in a single session with the most horrible brush of their collection.

You'll get the full report on the Scale Creep with everyone's fantastic results.

GORECHOSEN : Willy Gutshagger

Long time no see huh ? Well I've been in holidays for a while now and this is still a model I painted before leaving but since I'm getting access to a computer, I thought I could post a little something !

This guy is part of an ongoing challenge with my fellow WIPsters on Scale Creep and I was meant to select an oldschool chaos model to make myself a character to play in the upcoming game GORECHOSEN by GW.

The idea of playing with small lumps of lead against titans of plastic was just enough to motivate me even if the word CHAOS is generally sufficient for me.

ZOMBIES ! - I survived the Apoculyps...

Alright, I've just realised the life of a necromancer might actually be VERY tiring.

How do I know that ? Well you might have seen my brother James and I engaged in a stupid penis measurement challenge earlier.

In short, we were to each paint 8 sci-fi undead from Mantic and the winner would be whoever could come up first with his models done.

Now I fully know it was a foolish move from the start to challenge a man who is able to combine quality and quantity with ease but after all, you only get better by challenging the best !

Aaaand that's how I WON !
Just take a look at the progress report on the Scale Creep and drink the tears of sorrow of those who failed, I've just taken a bath in them so they should still be warm..

If you're more into how it all happened, here's the story :

Dark Vengeance - Chaos Space Marine Chosen

Ok, bit of change with those ! As always I'm getting to my first and true love : Chaos...

I hadn't really planned to paint those until a few weeks ago when a challenge was issued on a FB modelling page. The aim of this challenge was to make a point between white primers and black primers.

Given that the person who initiated the challenge is a firm believer in black undercoats, he made the challenge about painting black marines (raven guard, deathwatch, black templars and so on...). As you can imagine, this choice wasn't influenced by any kind of bad will or any bias...

Well given that I am the proud owner of a black renegade force, I thought I could join and get some models painted !

This Rainbow Warrior kills fascists

I suppose I don't have to tell any of you what happened in Orlando recently so I've just felt the urge to let my brushes drain the frustration away. Just yesterday again, a cop's family has been shot down so I could just as well have picked an arbite or a Judge from Judge Dredd I guess.

This was a rainbow warrior I chose to paint though.
