What is your style ?

one trick pony : god mode

Ok, Today I'd like to talk a bit about what we consider as style or a touch, anything that sets one's work apart from the rest.
We've all encountered people's work we can immediately tell apart from others and there are some things that make or break it for each f us.
It's usually harder to give a proper definition of what we do unless we have a very strong vision and the means to translate it in a tangible form (and that requires talent AND skill I think).

Why would I think about all that ? Well I do see people with a strong identity in their painting and I've been told now and then I do have a "style" some can easily identify (although I've also been mistaken for my friend Jon).

Life in 2 colours - a painting exercise

And now for something completely different and a little unexpected, here's a little painting exercise ! I've decided to take part in a little online painting challenge a couple of weeks ago. The rules were pretty simple : the only pots available had to be black, white, turquoise and orange !
Working with a limited palette should be OK, I'm used to it I thought... And then reality struck me in the face...
If model painters are ranked from "tournament minimum 3 colours" to "master level multi awarded god" well.... I guess I'm firmly stuck somewhere in the grey area in between.

Now what drives my painting ?

The colour and the Shape (modern art heavy post)

(No real link to the rest of the post but only the fact it's the best song of the album and one of my all time favourites)

Alright people...

2 weeks in Canada have left me with very little time (if any) for hobbying. That said those have been really wonderful moments to enjoy the charms of this country.

I'm just going to throw a couple of art pieces I particularly enjoyed at the modern art museum of Québec and from which I intend to learn/copy elements of colour combination and shape. I've not the artists name under hand but I've kept the museum program to be able to find them so if you need any informaton I can track it back for you.

Red, black and white ? With Stripes ? Sounds like Blanchitsu on the paper, looks like more on a painting, some real useful stuff here :

The wheel of fortune

I lately considered trying to get new things in my apainting. You know, just to stay out of the confrot zone to see where things can be improved.

One of the things I've been intrigued about for a long time is colour theory. I admit that apart from reading about it from a book by Kandinsky which left me with numerous questions, I left this matter aside, and kept on painting things as I was used to.

If you're into fantasy and wargaming, I'm pretty sure the name of such artists as Frank Frazetta and Simon Bisley are common for you. One thing I always found fascinating in their work is how they add what appears to be "weird" colours like blue or green to skintones to enhance the contrasts (that and the numerous boobs and weapons of course).

From Simon Bisley
From Frank Frazetta
