The colour and the Shape (modern art heavy post)

(No real link to the rest of the post but only the fact it's the best song of the album and one of my all time favourites)

Alright people...

2 weeks in Canada have left me with very little time (if any) for hobbying. That said those have been really wonderful moments to enjoy the charms of this country.

I'm just going to throw a couple of art pieces I particularly enjoyed at the modern art museum of Québec and from which I intend to learn/copy elements of colour combination and shape. I've not the artists name under hand but I've kept the museum program to be able to find them so if you need any informaton I can track it back for you.

Red, black and white ? With Stripes ? Sounds like Blanchitsu on the paper, looks like more on a painting, some real useful stuff here :

A few painting by Jean-Paul Riopelle which for some reason really appeal to me in their structure, texture and light.

Alfred Pellan with some cool colour association and structure :

On a more straightforward point, a sculpture I'd definitely turn into a model for it's quiet and yet imposing stature.

Far much worse things to do on a grey and cold day don't you think?

I promise next post will be about painted models and that sort of things you people seem to favour, just felt like sharing those with you.

  1. Thanks for sharing. It's always good to see something out of the blue like this, but still tangential, for new ideas or just the change.

    1. Cheers for that, that was exactly the intent, I like to consider things that permeate into our creations and I have to say those just made me want to pick brushes...

  2. Your next challenge is to interpret the above artworks into a figure inspired by them ;)

    1. Well some are already earmarked for some ongoing projects, some will have to mature a bit longer, maybe you will spot some of them soon ;)

    4. Honestly I think you could just stick circles staright on it to make a vast array of excellent shield designs yes. I'm thinking about using it for something a little more challenging though, we'll see how it turns out...
