Hey everyone, so today is yet another batch of scatter terrain, I promise I'm gonna paint something else soon but this is clearing the desk and my mental space plus it's extremely motivating because of how much better my tables are gonna look !
So in this particularly uninspiring batch (I'm not the greatest salesman), I've finished tha last pieces from the Mantic terrain crate. Now this one was offered by a friend and definitely fills a void in my collection but the material has made the experience difficult from start to finish.
Priming them has made them tacky to the touch, the bendy material means it's hard to remove mold lines and the warping is impossible to get rid of permanently even with hot/cold baths. The pieces that have been varnished ages ago are still a little tacky and the most recent ones almost feel freshly varnished to the touch. Frustrating.

They do look good and will definitely improve the areas they're in so that's the most important part I guess.
Now that stove and sink are resin casts from Ramshackle, kindly donated by Curtis during a BOYL event, I've had them half painted on the desk since I got them but attention deficit got the best of me like often.
Next are some funky lab/clinic bits from various GW kits which will enable me to have sordid surgeries and experimentations going, MWAHAHAH !
I love that those bits of terrain finally connect some models I've had for a while :
The underhive market continues to provide fantastic resources and I've decided to use the table/crates and display tables for different vendors, so you've got one with treasures, one with weapons, one with drinks and one with street food
Which gets me to the point where I definitely need more models of people eating stuff !
Hope you like those as much as I do, they're gonna be a great addition for narrative games !
Happy painting to you all !

Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteThanks !
DeleteThis is so cool ! (And more inspiration for finishing my Mantic Crates as well)
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to know if you face the same issues as I did with those
DeleteI only finished a few of them : you can see them at the bottom of this article (https://palabres-et-songes.blogspot.com/2024/06/star-saga-slapshop-applique.html).
DeleteThey seem less mishapped than yours even though my control table (with three legs) were so messed up... The other Mantic crates I got were not so impacted.
Great stuff: I love the themed tables.
ReplyDeleteBill.
Thanks !
DeleteJust more cool stuff to add fun flavour. Love those little scene's you photo'd at the end of this post.
ReplyDeleteThanks, just realised the last one is out of focus ^^'
DeleteReally nice work. Some of the Mantic Terrain Crates I've had more issues with than others; Street Scatter and Campsite have been fine, Abandoned Factory the pieces are all warped and feel almost oily to the touch. Going to give those a really good wash with some dish soap and see what I can straighten out.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's safer indeed, maybe I should avoid sprays altogether with those
DeleteI had some issues with some mantic terrain. It felt like the paint was beading up and not flowing properly. I wondered if it was a primer issue, but more likely it's an issue with the underlying stuff reacting with the primer.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I primed them with different primers and some were better, they all got worse after spray varnish though, maybe it's just about sprays
