Ancient Brain - Archon Studio

Following the Ettin I got i nmy dungeon and laser pledge, I thought I'd continue with big easy models and so I build the Ancient Brain. It's a big brain with tentacles and that's pretty much it, nothing to overthink or anything, paint it like a big brain with tentacles and you're good !

The only trick to it though was painting it after building it and even worse after BASING it. If you have it, just don't, stick on the base when you're done painting. The sculptor definitely played with 3D on this one but that makes plenty of areas hard to reach with a brush.

Access aside, it's a very fun model and a no brainer (see what I did here). I was done in 3 small session with mostly washes and drybrushes, the eyes and tongue spikes being the only places where I took a fine brush actually.

Obviously there are plenty of place where that sort of creature will be handy and I cannot wait to drop it on my players !

Is it good or malevolent, who knows ? we'll have to study. Happy painting to y'all !

  2. That's fantastic. It looks like the result of a very complex paint job. Great work.

    1. Thanks ! It's anything but a complex paintjob though, I wasn't sure the sculpt would lend itself that well to simple techniques but it did. I've also been working my drybrushing with the tutorials on Artis Opus
