Orks, orks orks, get ready for some love !

Orctober is a good month, not only becaus eit is the month that saw me come to this world or because of the trees getting coloured in all sorts of splendid colours from green to yellow, orange and red but because thanks to Erny, it's become the international month of celebration of orcoid love.

Now I've taken part a few times in Orctober now and felt like giving it a go once again this year. I didn't have any big plan for it but a quick look at my desk told me I had some fodder (don't we all ?).
As you can see I've painted them to fit with my space ork raiders because I know the colours and it makes the band expand and evolve time after time.

Now the goblin on the right migt remind you of someone and it's only natural. He's Crom "Fatbelly" by Kev Adams, a futuristic take on one of the most iconic characters of the red era, namely Grom teh Paunch :

The other guy is a shock attack gun servant I got from Lord Papafakis' stash at BOYL. With his weird proportions and insanely huge shoulder pad I had to give him some stupid gun. I first thought about giving him a ridiculously small one which would have been fun with his tongue out but for practical reason it was just a nightmare so I decided to give him a regular big one but a silly one.

I like to see orks as coming up with simple solutions to any form of problem. So I've thought about a gun upgrade that boosts both the weapon's range and the protection for its bearer...
How so ?
Well just raise the gun. Simple as that.

Battlefield studies have proved seeing the target wasn't a prerequisite for an ork and the hit ratio between seeing the target or not wasn't significantly different to stop the project (it wasn't different at all actually).

The added benefit is that with a higher shooting position means an extended range as well. Two bords with one stone. Or two beakies with one clip if you like.

Now both my new orks are big boys so I've taken a picture along some of the later Adams Weirdboys, I should have added an original space raider as well but I think orks looks better when they come in sifferent sizes and styles, it suits them fine.

Now let's enjoy the last days of Orctober before something new comes our way...

Oh and guess what !!! I've actually painted more models than last year and we're only at the end of october ! How cool is that ? I'm not getting significantly better but I am getting faster !

Have a good time !

  1. Marvellous work mate! I do love that colour scheme that you use for all your Orks. That Crom sculpt is really something and it's good to see one painted up so well.

    1. Cheers mate !
It's a big model and it's loaded with details which can be a bit intimidating at first tob honest, one I had everything blocked in it was much easier. I hesitated adding checkers here and there but it would have made the model even more busy (plus it was late).
      Glad you like them. ;)

  2. I like your orks JB. Well I like your ork and your overgrown space goblin, ig we're getting technical (and I know you like it technical).
I wasn't sold on that huge cannon thing until you explained about the range boost. It made me actualol. It's a work of genius cunning and utterly self-assured lunacy. I like it now. Well done! :D

  3. Two of my most favourite Ork miniatures; the shokk attack gunner (minus the aforementioned weapon - but nobodies perfect) and the weirdboy being 'fired'. ^^

    1. The ork came without its gun (hence why he was a freebie I guess)but he's a good one nonetheless. The weridboy being used as a heavy weapon is just a brilliant idea and a spectaculr sculpt really, it's insanely well designed if you think about all the constraints about doing such a model.

  8. I originally read "I like to see orks as coming up with simple solutions to any form of problem" as "I like to see orks as coming up with simple solutions to FORM ANY problem," which I found much more amusing.

Either way, excellent work and I love the skin tones!

  9. Glad he's benefited from going to a good home JB. He wasn't getting the attention that he deserved at my place. Love the gig arse gun, like you alluded to, his shoulders are large enough to accommodate an oversized weapon.

I like the smattering of yellow on Paunch too. It really helps to break him up a bit.

Awesome additions to your horde JB. How many is that now?

    1. I have no idea how big the horde is now, I'd need to rebase them all the same to get them all out at once. It would be fun though ^^
      Cheers bud !

  10. Lovely stuff! The bonkers air cooled hand cranked snotling belt fed snazzgun is fabulous. And absolutely engineered for maximum dakka capacity. The star motif is really nice, I noticed it on your previous orks, and it's a nice common element.

Grom is perfectly realised as a sci-fi version. As Mr Papfakis said, the yellow is a really eye-catching element.

I now want some kind of warband scrap at BOYL please.

  12. They are so gorgeous. My favourite part, however, is the gunner's blue tongue. It's such a little touch, but it brings him to life.

  15. Didnt realise there was a scifi version of the Paunch from the Misty Mountains. Think i far prefer this version.
Lovely paintjobs as ever JB. Early 90s orks just had so much more character and fun about their sculpts and fluff, which of course your deronculous gun fully embodies!
