OK, I have to say last Saturday was a VERY exceptionnal day for me. I took full advantages of a shitty weather and a sore feet from too much sport the day before and I engaged myself in a painting marathon. This marathon was made more than enjoyable by skyping with Paul and Colin, and I have to say being able to talk non-sense (even though I'm the silent one due to language) and seeing other people lick their brushes was a real pleasure and help as we managed to sit for 6 hours straight (almost).
This means I managed to finish 10 models in a day. The first 5 being the INTERNAL OGRANS BROFIST from last time.
Now here's something a little different, it's a little more in line with my zombies from earlier.
I picked these guys a while ago in the Macrocosm Kickstarter, they're a pretty nice bunch if you ask me (I did lose track of what was bone or suit in a few places) so If you're in need of space undead and wan't be arsed to spend cash on Limited edition models, I advise you to pick some of those up HERE.
What's the appeal of having spaced undead ? Isn't mixing fantasy and sci-fi pushing the limits a bit too far ?
Eeerrrm...
B17 undead pilot from Heavy metal says : "Fuck no" |
Given I wanted something simple painting wise, I opted for a dark suit to contrast with the bones. As usual, I went with my speed technique, starting with zenithals of grey then white over a black basecoat.
Then a giant wash of medium, black paint and water (a third of each) all over the place (but mostly in models).
Just had to paint the bones parts and helmets et voilà !
I also took the time to take a few scenic shots for fun (and use my terrain a bit).
The Albatros class starship "Silver eagle" had to land on planet XV-M... The crash was so violent that noone could have survived. Noone did but something else emerged from the shattered remains of the ship. Is it due to the place they crashed into ? Is it due to what made them land in emergency ?
"Is that really the definition of a piece of cake Finnegan ? Gawd, I thought this was gong to be easy cash Emperor Damnit !
Oh and while we're at this, why don't you go check out and subscribe to my pal Andrew's new blog ? Help him keep a steady flow of pictures on his blog. ;)
Go visit Acceptable Radiation !
Did you treat the weapons identically to the space suits in that case then A-Man? They look the part :)
ReplyDeleteAs for you being "the silent one" during skype painting sessions, I think that you will find that rather than being a language related issue - which I highly doubt - it is more likely that you are in fact concentrating on what you are doing.
Concentration has never been my strong point, but your output over the last few days illustrates that it certainly seems to be one of yours :)
Aha, cheers, multitasking is not my strong point I have to say. The weapons were treated as the rest of teh suits yes, with a couple of days past now, I think I'll come back to them with just a bit of pigment weathering (when I get some). Something simple just to break the black mass a little and give an old look to them.
DeleteTakin a ride came into my head as soon as I laid eyes on these figures, B17 was the best scene in heavy metal! Bone black and red is a great colour combo, 10 figs in a day is a damned good pace.
ReplyDeleteWell done Sir
Cheers ! This one lacks a little tits but makes up for it with the excellent vibe going on.
DeleteThey look great! And thanks for the plug!
ReplyDeleteAh cheers. My pleasure !
DeleteExcellent! The red glass helmets are completely unexpected, I like! I started on mine, but a primer accident caused me to pause the work (2 are done). Great little figures.
ReplyDeleteWell, they're not really complicated so you should see the end of them soon enough !
DeleteCheers !
Oh, and btw, I don't see them as fantasy. What you are mixing is horror with Sci-Fi. And those blend perfectly!
ReplyDeleteQuite true actually, makes even more sense now !
DeleteI'm a fan of these - the bone and black makes the red visors really jump out at you. For my taste, I wish the unhelmeted guy had a weapon. He's already 'different' as he has no helmet. The scenic shots are really evocative. Lovely (yet again!).
ReplyDeleteI think they'll require a bit or weathering when I get my pigments but otherwise they're a good return on time investment I reckon.
DeleteI tried to give them as few weapons as I could honestly, this was my only motive.
I like the red glass, gives a nicely retro-future look to the figures. (which after all is perfect for dead spacemen)
ReplyDeleteHow long do you think you spent on these? Your description of mostly washing them makes it sound very fast...
Something like 2 hours including time spent on others I'd say. There's only 4 colours to work on and the shapes are easy to work with really.
DeleteI don'y know if it's the models and the painting or the story I liked the most. Probably both :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent !
OK, you have the right to love all 3 bu just this once !
DeleteNew blog followed!
ReplyDeleteThese are both cool sculpts and wonderfully painted. I too love the red lids.
Cheers, glad you're following Andrew, he's definitely got good stuff to show !
DeleteSo cool! The red visors are quite a thing, the whole team is top notch!
ReplyDeleteCheers Amigo !
DeleteCool JB!
ReplyDeleteThe Heavy Metal movies were great. I like that bomber scene quite a lot. Did you ever see the making of the movies? It's really cool too see how they made each type of animation.
Deadite Astronauts......way cool :)
Last time I watched it must have been in 2000 I think, it's never occured to me to watch it again and look for a making of. I'll have a look for it !
DeleteVery cool work! It's oddly pleasing to the eye seeing the subject matter :)
ReplyDeleteThere's beauty on everything they say !
DeleteCheers !
