Alright, this one is an usual one today. I'm back from a whole gaming WE in le Havre in France to meet a bunch of extremely nice enthusiasts and we have managed to play a whole campaign of Mordheim with 5 games in the course of 2 days !
I have to say this was a double first for me as I had never played Mordheim before and never had I played that many rounds of the same game in a row.
To play this campaign, I had selected my champions of Law (played as witch hunters) to keep it oldschool and to have the opportunity to play this warband I took so much pleasure to paint.
Here's a quick (but picture heavy) report of this wonderful WE !
PLAYERS :
All the tables and games had been prepared by Cédric AKA Punished Ced and believe me when I say he's done one hell of an awesome work. I've rarely played on such magnificent tables and plenty of NPCs were just awaiting for us to roll weird events ! That was GMing brought to an other level really (plus he's the kindest of hosts).
The Elf warband of Thomas AKA Pellox (think about a whole army of Legolas wannabes and you get the idea) :
Chaos agents from Christophe AKA Bubu AKA Bewbs :
The dwarf contingent from Edouard AKA Bood Wargames AKA Bood :
The Norse warband from Lucie :
And the filthy orcs and goblins (or part of) from Noa :
So that was 6 players fighting for glory and a whole lot of other motives in a series of 5 games to enable them to encounter every other player over the WE.
Round 1 : The lost prince :
Willy von Hohnenheim (also known as Willy the prick) has been wandering in Mordheim's ruins to look for trouble and smoke pot with his friends like usual. Problem is he's been especially silly and his 'friends' have decided to abandon him in the ruins where the party took place.
Willy's father has somehow managed to get the truth from his son's friends and he has sent bounty hunters to retrieve the idiot son from the ruins. Problem is, many chiefs have heard of the reward promise and are looking to earn some quick cash...
"BLEUARGH ! Aw bollocks, I feel like horseshite... hey guys ! GUYS ! Aw for Sigmar's sake, don't tell me the bastards have left me... AGAIN !" |
The "chevaliers d'Uralex", proud servants of Arianka and champions of Law have decided to accomplish their mission and are headed towards the ruins where Willy is supposed to hide...
Meanwhile, some evil forces have started to hide in the shadows to get in the way of the proud knights...
The orc shaman is very excited about their coming mission (and probably a little under the influence of mushrooms too).
Aquila sends his warhounds to take care of the goblin archers. Last thing he wants is to see is good men fall under the arrows of such pathetic creatures...
That should leave room for the knights to reach the objective...
Aquila enters the building and spots Willy in the upper levels, the brat could have had the decency to come down to meet them at least... (Aquila adds "behaves like a dick" after "use of drugs", "fornication" and a many other entries in the 10 page list...)
The goblins decide to get into position to do some nice Lawful kebabs...
That's when Thomas the Troll decided to get out and have some fun killing people... until he tasted what was hanging from his nose and decided it was nice and he could eat some more...
The goblins were feverishly awaiting until they saw a target appear in the building in front of them...
"- Fuck you, he's mine ! -NO, fuck YOU, he's mine ! - Wait wait wait guys, go fuck YOURSELVES, that human's mine!" |
While some more goblins were bravely awaiting at the other side of town...
The knights d'Uralex entered the building where Willy was, they could hear the poor boy whine from where they were.
With the heavy hitters in the place, the real fun is about to start !
Aquila can smell a sordid stench from not too far so he single handedly climbs the rope to the upper floor...
And finds Willy lying in a pool of vomit and urine.
After refraining from kicking the idiot to the ground, he grabs him under the arm and jumps to the lower floor (with 2 flips mid-air)...
...
Just to find his trusted warrior-priest "Warlock" bleeding from a goblin arrow...
"- Are you OK my brave Warlock ? Please don't tell me it's just an arrow ! - Nah, t'is nothing but a flesh wound boss..." |
A long and awkward silence follows...
"Warlock ! You're being silly now ! Will you stand up you fool ?" |
With the Warlock still trying to regain consciousness (and a bit of dignity), Aquila calmly climbs the ladder down, pulling Willy by the hair behind him.
As the orcs enter the room, he winks at Taylor And Manus, his trusted henchmen (who seem used to spotting winks from behind a helmet) to take care of the situation.
As the orcs enter the room, he winks at Taylor And Manus, his trusted henchmen (who seem used to spotting winks from behind a helmet) to take care of the situation.
Meanwhile, the dogs decide to feast upon goblinoids...
The knights charge the orcish leaders while Aquila decides to leave the place with their target in hand.
The Warhounds quickly finish their meal and look for another target...
The situation seems well under hand from that point...
The only problem is that Thomas the Troll's nose is empty and he no longer has any occupation... he thus decides to go pick a fight with the fanatics after picking his nose for most of the time.
Leaving Taylor do the hard part of the job...
"Arianka guides my blade and I can tell you she's guiding it to your ugly face, punk" |
"- Sir, I really don't know what happened, I was sure the jump would be fine, they must have cast a spell on me ! - Warlock... - My liege ? - Shut the hell up or else..." |
So this is it ! The end of the first battle !, I kinda wanted to do them all at once but it would be way too long and a tad boring for you so I'm going to split those reports over many posts !
I was very glad to end this first mordheim game on a victory though I have to say a good part of it come down to me chosing the best side to start from...
Winning this scenario right from the start was also a great help since it drowns you under rewards, a very convenient thing to boost your band right from the start. This games allowed me to recruit another fanatic and earn a upgrade some of my warriors. More importantly, it enabled me to buy a crossbow for Aquila, the captain who ought to be good in every occasion.
In the following episode, the knights d'Uralex will encounter a bunch of annoying elves and their even more annoying long range weapons...
That looked absolutely DUCKING brilliant. Pure 28mm porn from beginning to end. Really looking forward to the rest of the reports!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate! That was a 28mm orgy really all WE long. Great Game, great players and massively brilliant tables !
DeleteThat looks like a lot of fun. Playing amongst such realistic terrain with the models you've dedicated such time on, is a real plus in this hobby. Battle report writing? Not so much!
ReplyDeleteYup, from collecting to playing, it's all fun, I hope the photo dump with notes is fun enough to read, Just don't have the nerves for more !
DeleteSo we finally have the explanation for the pictures spamming you've rained on FB lately ^^ Enjoyed the reading a lot and look forward to read next episodes since sceneries and minis seem greatly painted. Mordheim is a really great game i still play nowadays. Only problem is the absolutely overpowered dwarves warband that always ruined every campaign i've been involved in. Hope it did not happen to your little campaign.
ReplyDeleteI've had the chance to meet the dwarf contingent quite early in the campaign but I reckon he seemed fairly impressive at the end? I've found the witch-hunters to be very fun to play.
DeleteThanks for the report! I reckon this is wargaming at its best: great miniatures on superb terrain, and a fun little story too. Looking forward to the rest of the reports.
ReplyDeleteCheers, It's true it's quite rewarding to just push good models on a brilliant table and see th eresult of great efforts ending this way ! I have 4 more stories in my bag !
DeleteLove the ash piles in the building. Have to steal that myself. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAll the scenery is full of little details like that which really make the tables look insanely good !
DeleteSome wonderful eye candy there and it sounds like good fun too! Thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteIt was great fun indeed, couldn't ask for better really ! There's more ahead. ;)
DeleteI love the irreverent style to the report, but I'm satisfied just seeing photos of gorgeous models on gorgeous terrain!
ReplyDeleteI don't have the talent of others to tell stories but I can't help adding a little non-sense to the wonderful experience I had gaming in such conditions. There's some great moments ahead still !
DeleteSuch a treat!
ReplyDeleteI really regret I haven't decided to build Mordheim table instead of Ash Wastes desert =(
Well, the 2 are fairly different so you better build both ;)
DeleteThanks to you JB to come free 6hrs train to meet us and play...A real pleasure to play with you, A real pleasure to organise All for the weekend, a really good weekend already finished! Damn!
ReplyDeleteWell now I have to continue my city... Empressed to read next game! Thanks for your report!
Man, you really were the best, never have I seen a WE so brilliantly organised and such a geek feast ! It seems easier to say it now I'm away but you really did everything you could to make this WE perfect and it's exactly what it was !
Delete6hrs, heh?
ReplyDeleteWhere do you guys meet? ^^
I live in the South of France and the WE was in le Havre in the North, still a WE worth crossing a country for ! ;)
DeleteThat's why Mordheim remains such a great game years after it was released : it's full of fun moments and at the same time manages to create great stories.
ReplyDeleteWith such wonderful warbands, I'm sure plenty of epic moment have still to be related :)
Glad you had the occasion to put your warband to such a good use ! ^^
Cheers mec ! A friend told me Mordheim had the best balance amongst all the games of the sort and I really find it's the case. You can adapt it quite easily and there are plenty of occasions to make things fun. The progression rules are simple but enable some intersting development. I'm really eager to play some more now !
DeleteAwesome scenery , minis , campaign....so jealous pal :(
ReplyDeleteCheers man ! Glad you liked it, there's more to come. ^^
DeleteAwesome stuff JB - great to see that lovely warband having a run!
ReplyDeleteCheers, I always feel happy when a model makes it on the tabletop for the first time !
DeleteGreat to see your lovely warband in action -- and good to hear you had a good weekend! I should put my mind to something similar ... in my copious free time.
ReplyDeleteCheers James ! It was a blast really, can't recommend it enough. ;)
DeleteAwesome stuff JB I thought the facebooks pics were enough, boy was a wrong. Excellent report, and what lovely warbands!!!!
ReplyDeleteDude, the shitty pics were just the foreplays, I had to show the real deal after that !
DeleteFabulous models and great scenery, a real pleasure to scroll through those images!
ReplyDeleteCheers ! Can't be happier if you guys like it !

ReplyDeleteThe selection of beautiful miniatures and exquisite terrain really is exceptional.
Lovely.
Ced has set a vert high standard with both his tables and overall préparation. I had fun painting the champions of Law but the pleasure I've got out of them has been doubled from this experience.
DeleteMordheim is one of my all-time favourite games, with it's unique combination of atmosphere, addictive narrative play and potential for pure hilarity. Looks to me like you guys did it right :D Can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity I missed That one at the time because of my teenage obsession with girls but it has all the ingrédients for awesomeness
DeleteHoly heck, that table looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteNever got to play Mordheim, though it always looked fun and that Carnival of Nurgle set had loads of character that I wish I'd had opportunity to paint.
It was a first for me but I'm a convinced fan now ! Wish I had put my hands on That set as well...
