Redeemed chaos champion : How the emperor loves you more than you hate yourself

Now we come to one of the best parts of the Sensei background. You may remember from the starting post on them that there is a little detail in the rules that intrigued me a lot :

and you may also remember that excellent Jes Goodwin drawing :

Well, now we know there was no other way but to add Mr Gasmask to the band. It is interesting to note the hero on the right has eldar-like traits (like lots of Jes Goodwin characters) and even a eldar insigna hanging from his belt...

However, the one who interests us is the former chaos champion.
I know the cloven feet should have disappeared since disfiguring mutations are taken from the redeemed champions but we can assume the champion was a beatsman to start with... The gasmask, apart from its use in warfare, is probably a way to hide his face to the world (and part of his shame) since from now on, the redeemed champion will be focused on fighting his former masters.

I like how our new friend integrates in the band even if he was painted a year earlier.

EDIT : Oh and while you're at it, why don't you have a look at Bruno's wonders (the lead and plastic ones with paint on them ones I mean...)

He's a top guy with a great collection and painting abilities, definitely worth following :

  1. He looks perfectly at home with that band of outcasts, misfits and rule-breakers! Now all you need to do is convert up a model to represent the Jes Goodwin Sensei ;)

    1. Good thing about sensei is that I don't tire of them. I think I'm going to follow your example and convert a Jes Goodwin sensei with Jes Goodwin only bits ! I find the sensei on the pic even looks like Jes himself (from the pictures I know of him, since I haven't met him in the flesh.

Since you're the most Jes Goodwin knowledgeable man I know, any hints for potential donors? I'm pretty sure a eldar ranger base with a wood elf head would be th eway to go to start...

    1. Thanks a lot ! I only have to find who's going to be the icing then?

    2. I can advise you asking some beasts of Papa Nurgle for some ooze... =p

    3. Far more fun than a plain coat of PV glue I agree ;)

    4. Yet squeezing PVA glue off tube is bit easier that squeezing it off beast of Nurgle =D

    5. Just a question of technique, being french comes with a natural mastery of all things snail and limaces (and smelly)...

  3. Really nice addition to the war band.

    1. Thanks a lot, I actually painted him a year ago and only finished details recently which is why the basing looks different (he was a test model for my RT basing). Apart from that, I think he just fits nnicely in and adds a sort of gloomy vibe in this band of Goody two shoes !

  4. A glorious band of miscreants, and the new addition is splendid. I've just started my own band, with a slightly darker tone.

    1. Well, a sensei band is basically the most "loyal good" kind of warband you can get in Rogue trader so it has to be bright enough even though I tried to keep them a little darl to show they must hide in the shadows.
Are you building a sensei gang or is it just a regular RT warband?

  5. I chose my words poorly there. I mean darker tone as in a little less pure of heart, there's not a thing wrong with your coluor choices! It's a sensei warband, but a sensei (who's also a Magos) who has been infected by a genestealer.

    1. Oh right ! And there I was thinking my grey sensei to come was something original. I am really looking forward to this especially after seeing your first models in the vein.

    2. Ooo, the grey sensei sounds good. I'm eager to see what you come up with.

  6. Cracking work. Is the figure a conversion?

    1. Not at all. It is the original model which even an average paintjob can't make look bad.
      Thanks a lot.

    A+ Nico

  8. I have that mini, but painted in dark dirty green, but I was wondering for a while how would it look like in red. Now that I've seen yours, the choice is taken, red and checkers it must be! Great, inspiring work!

    1. The red and checkers is almost a Blanche trademark but I find it serves this model particularly well; I'd like to get my hands on the 3rd varaint of it just for the fun of it and to compare them.
      Thanks Suber !

  10. What a great group of misfits. They have a certain defiant cast. They know, no matter what, they're kinda screwed. It's cool seeing them come together.

  11. You've got an awesome sensei band JB :)

Anything that explores the lesser known parts of RT or WFB piques my interest.

    Well done!

  12. Love the new addition! Love the character of the group! Love the thought gone into their concepts!

Have to thank you JB for getting me hooked on this Sensei train. The excuse to paint almost ANY model with an RT style and use it is brilliant. Although, it's costing me, as I'm now bidding on an old Ogryn.

    1. Well, pleasure is shared, I'm so glad to see so many of us are aboard the same train to a different sci-fi setting. I just lovethe fact everyone has his own view on the subject.
As for the ogryn, consider the painting you'll get from painting him will be on par with his price and size...
