So I'm finally back onto Trench Crusade and this time I'm going on the Heretic Legions. Like often, I like to set the tone with the grunts who form the backbone of a abnd or army to then move onto the fancier entries (AKA keeping the best for the end).
Now I've had those kitbashed for some time but after completing several projects, I thought I could allow myself getting back to yet another !
Now you can get 2 levels of heretic troopers if you upgrade them so I wanted a way to have both and make it visible :
My solution was to give the legionnaires bare heads to show the twisted mutations of those who have literally faced hell and come back to tell.
The conversions are done from Death Korps of Krieg bodies with printed bits and arms from WW2 canadian troopers (I hope you will excuse the anachronisms but I reckon that game is pretty forgiving).
The heads on the legionnaires are from nurgle space marines, I think the idea was sound, I wanted a sort of Hellraiser feel to them but the heads are too big and make them slightly more goofy than I wanted, I also underestimated how small the DKOK are and the printed bits are a tad too big too.
Painting wise, I went with something organic, lots of washes and dirty techniques, not much attention to detail, it's more an impressonist take than something really neat.
With those lads done, I'm gona move onto the human sized characters to get a good core and then I'll be able to move onto the big nasties !
