Lady Greiss - Imperial Noble and a very good reason to buy more models

Here's Lady Greiss, another wonderful model from the Colony 87 range sculpted by the talented Michael Anderson and initiated by the wonderful Jon/Axiom.
As for all other models of the range, this one was a real pleasure to paint though due to some poor choices I've had to suffer at the end of the painting process.

Concept sketches by Will Beck

At first I just painted the little creature as a normal (though pretty creepy) child with a normal caucasian skin tone :

But a discussion with my WIPster buddy Paul put me on cool idea : The creature could actually be a caryatid whose wings have been clipped off to make a pet/child of it :

Picture taken from the Lexicanum
See that as a reference to the kind of non-sense humanity usually comes up with when it has too much time and money and too little moral...

So with that in mind I threw some blue glazes on the little guy just to make it look like a caryatid. I painted it differently from the "natural" one attached to Pierce Gavestone (seen below) as I wanted to represent on its skin it's in poor health since it's been captive from a young age.

Life between nobles

I've also given him some white make-up around the eyes as most of the examples we can see in confrontation sport outrageous make up.
That's 4 Colony 87 models painted so far so I'm a little above halfway through the models I have. The 3 others will be painted as part of the same project as I have an idea of how to use them so they might wait a tad longer to get done.
If you haven't got a set yet, do not worry, my little finger tells me you could be able to get those and new ones at the beginning of 2016 ;)

"How does this all give me a very good reason to buy more models ?"

Since this leaves you with some time, would you please consider looking at the Ebay auctions below. These are made under my friend Jon/Axiom's account and regroup some lots gathered by a group of friends. The aim of these auctions is to earn as much as we can from those items to give all profits to a cause that is very dear to one of us and therefore to us all. Go check the auctions and see the unreleased models, original illustrations and limited editions we're going to unleash :

New items will be added during the week so check them once in a while as you might be very surprised by the items listed...

If you don't want or need any of the items listed here, you can still help directly through the Gofundme campaign :

In the coming daysn I hope to be presenting you a group of models on which I've been struggling a fair bit in the last weeks but who should see the light of day soon now ; fingers crossed, I'm getting rid of commisions one by one and will soon resume a more chaotic and organic production !

  2. Making that a clipped Caryatid is a brilliant touch that makes it even more creepy than the original sculpt.

  3. The "clipped" caryatid is a sinister touch, I'm glad that you went with that.

The finished model is lovely too, tell orange hair is a lovely bright touch that particularly appeals to me.

    1. Cheers, credits should go to you really, I wanted to try a non-flat skin colour but I'm still under the impression at this scale it just looks a bit messy...

    1. Well with the people painting those as brillianty as they do, I have to take other paths !
Thanks about the auctions, I hope we can earn enough for this occasion ;)

  5. Interestingly, Michael had envisaged the little chap as non-human. The caryatid with a wing-ectomy is a really interesting and sinister take on the figure. Suddenly Lady Greiss isn't just haughty, but she's rather sadistic too!

I love the colours - really delicate. A great result!

    1. Paul's idea ! I'm not sure if she's sadistic or just purely blind to other people's misery but one thing is for sure those imperial nobles are not the best examples of human beings I fear !
I love the chain you can see on the creature on the ground, that pushed me to cross the non-human boundary ;)

    1. Cheers, I've been help in making the decision really but in hindsight the creature needed something to make it proper creepy.

  7. Great work on this one. I love the palette - the blues and greys work really well, and the red hair/shirt 'pop' nicely. Also exciting to hear there's more Colony 87 in the pipe, although I've only managed to paint one of the current set so far.

    1. Cheers, I kept the palette simple to leave the focus on her head and on the creature. I'm really excited about the coming models and I want to put the remaining 3 I have on the menu ASAP. ;)

  10. The pet in the lady's arm is obviously great, but I really love the cold skin tone of your models. A perfect representation of the pallid flesh of the space faring remnants of humanity, struggling with moral and violence. It perfectly suits the grimdark future :)
Nice move on the fundraising, I'm a bit short on cash these days but I'll have a look anyway

I had all kinds of remorse about making the change but it seems to be working for you guys !
I'm loving where the next model is heading so I hope you'll like it as well ^^.

    1. There are actually a couple of pretty nasty areas due to me soiling the PJ with paint on my fingers. She's a wonderful model to paint though as all the group so far.
      Thanks a lot !
