Rogue trader Mad punk

A lot of work in progress at the moment, most of which being for the upcoming Oldhammer week-end in Newmark. This means a grey sensei, a space adventurers gang and on a totally unrelated note the 2nd edition eldar avatar (WIP pics to come to get your thoughts on the process).

The model I have to show today is the Mad punk form the rogue trader adventurers range.

It is a lovely model with some very pretty parts and some more bizarre ones (just look at the size of those gloves) but I found it very pleasant to paint. I am very glad to have a feminine member in the crew at last. She also adds a little more etnic diversity with a middle-eastern scout friend and the halfling which shows in the grim darkness of a dark future there may be only war but not only WASPs fighting it.

The colours used on the model are echoing those you can find on the other members to keep a sense of unity in the gang. The pink crest was not intended at first but my 3 years old daughter climbed on my knees while I was painting the model and she requested that I should add some pink somewhere.
Being a "yeah alright" kind of dad, I complied with her demand and justified this by the fact Jason Fulford aka RT adventurers master had already done that before :

I used the exact same set up to photograph this model as for the others but for some reason the nuances in the black skin don't really show here wich is a pity.

So now the warband has 5 members which is starting to be a good size. I have another 2 members to add but the 2 more members left won't be rogue trader models I'm afraid. I've found 2 lovely figures from the colonel Shaeffer's crew (I know, that's awfully 3rd ed) wich I like a lot and which I think could tie very well amongst the others with the proper paintjob.

  1. The crew look good together. I must admit that this is possibly my least liked RT Adventurer model, its just a bit too goofy for my tastes. I applaud your efforts at making the Sensei crew less of a sausage fest.

    1. The sculpt looks rather peculiar like if all parts had not been sculpted by teh same artist. the head and body base are very good though and since there are not that much female advneturers to pick from...
Glad you like the group shot. I stayed far from the usual flashy paintjobs you can find because I wanted them to have a sort of "A-team" feeling, like they're sort of mercenaries of Good.

  2. Superb JB, I love the skin tone, I painted half of my Rogue Trader Imperial Army as Jungle Fighters with Afro-Caribean skin tone for the platoon feel, I love your colour scheme and the mohawk, she definately looks more sci-fi than mine :) thanks for the kind words and shout out, I myself am working on RT Ordo Malleus at the moment, horrible sculpts, it's killing me :D

    1. Cheers Jason !
I've just recently won the Ordo Malleus inquisitor for a quid and I have to say the sculpt is a huge let-down. I take it as a challenge to work my freehand skills and imagination :D

    1. I sense a certain bias towards pink hair in you...
Thanks for the kind words though ;)

  4. Excellent, good constrast with the black skin and pink hair. I like the way that the crew are different but have a unifying feel of colour.

    1. Good, I'm glad people like the unity. I wasn't so sure it worked well but though the link is slim, it seems to work.

      Thanks

  5. Looks good. The sculpt almost make her look like a half elf. But I guess half eldar is heresy, I never heard of it before.

    1. I've heard about Jes Goodwin and Aly Morrisson working on the same models and swaping parts between them. I wonder if the head could be by Jes Which would explain the mowak and the elvish appearance...

  6. I can recall back in the fluff Ilyan Nastase, Chief Librarian of the Ultramarines, who was in fact half eldar. WD ninety-something. I would have to doublecheck the number, but these things happened back in time ;)
Your paintjob here is superb, love what you did, the combination of colours and everything! Nice addition to the band!

    2. I can corroborate Subers story. I dont have that issue, but I have read it. A half-Eldar Ultramarine Librarian: even when I first read it in the mid nineties (about five years after its publication) it seemed very strange.

I dont know the issue number. Somewhere in the #90s for sure Id say.

    3. I believe the medic who supervised his gland implantation and medical transformation was at the end of a long day and felt like going home (maybe there was a match that night who knows). They shall know no fear but they might know boredom at the end of the day...

Oh and I found things about Illiyan Nastase, I had totally missed that thing. Cheers guys !

    4. I could dare to say it was #98, but I'll doublecheck when I come back home. Those were the days when Ultras were a 3rd foundation chapter and Marneus Calgar was a slave born in Badab and we had Ilyan Nastase, of course. Ahh, the old days...

  7. You know what they say, big gloves equates to big hands :)
The 5 O'clock shadow/stubble on the Sensei himself is most impressive.

  8. Nice. Do you have a name for her? If not, may I suggest Bebop since she remind me of Bebop (from TMNT) pre-mutation look.

    1. Her name is a secret to most but the sensei actually, it 'might" have been Bebop, it's Mad Punk to all the others though... ;)
