Hey everyone, you might have experienced it yourself but sometimes some models just jump to the top of the queue without any warning. Well I've had those on the desk for literal years (actually 2 house moves) and just the other day I applied some base coat onto them and two sessions later they were done.
They're almost 10 years old now from back when sci-fi NPC's were still so hard to find and the colony 87 range was just nascent, that's when LAM released 2 Astropolis kickstarters with loads of cool NPC's by Igor Karpov.
Well playing with the boys some narrative games, I've really found myself needing more of those non combatant types and since I had just painfully got a unot of beastmen to the end of the shit stage (blocking base colours), I rewarded myself with a fast rewarding project that also helps me in the bigger plan.
I kew right from the start I wanted those to be some vivid alien colour and wanted to keep clear of brown fur and avoid that look :
To make it more interesting though, I decided to go with several shades of pink to give it some variation. I had also forgotten how those Astropolis models were covered with rolls made with the then fresh new green stuff roller.
There are plenty of details I didn't know how to paint at first (which probably blocked me a bit for years) but it all sort of clicked when I just started painting like it does when painting Bob Olley models and you realise you just don't have to detail everything and you can just leave the model do the job for you.
So just like that I went from agonising on a desk for years to done start to finish in 2 evenings !
Now since I have a small attention span, I didn't realise the little ones weren't just kid versions of the bigger once (I only realised when I went checking their names on the store) and they're probably more like pets or something but whatever, it can be either now.
If you're into those, you can find them HERE.
