HOWEVER, this is not a reason not to get anything done !
I got these mutants not long ago, at least not long after they were released which wasn't that far in the past. I know I've let the rogue trader stuff aside a bit lately but those were an absolute no brainer when I saw them. probably one of the most obvious illustration that needed models in the whole Rogue Trader rulebook.
Now like often, I didn't check the artwork before painting so my interpretation of colours (as much as you can interpret them from a black and white picture) is often off on these but I love this guy's rearranged face, I guess being able to smell in stereo comes with assets !
I like the expression on this one, like he's actually surprised to have a mugshot taken , the model probably show him at a moemnt when he's much more determined I guess.
Now th enext guy is probably played by Willem Dafoe, I really love his intensity, he's just not here to play. He really means it, whetever it may be.
The beastman seems a bit high or maybe too old, or probably a bit of both, he just does the job and leaves the rest onto others, pretty chill guy.
Once again, had I looked at the illustrations before, I would probably gone for regular big eyes instead of chameleon eyes. I think they do look cool though and I somehow wanted him to blend in and have him in an almost monochrome look.
Probably my favourite of the bunch, I could definitely paint a whole band of guys like him. Something odd, you're not really sure if he's a zombie, victim of an alien virus or he just needs a lot of sleep or coffee but the model certainly elevated the already great concept here.
Another favourite of mine, not exactly sure why, probbaly because the face was really fun to pick with the brushes and he has this sort of seriousness ruined by the weird tentacley nose !
Don't ask me why but I knew this one was a delicate female from the start so I tried to get a little girly touch into her, she hates violence, bad taste and loudness. Well until those are the only answers left for her.
The melty man is a fun one too, his morning skin routine must be quite something !
See, I almost went with orange skin and green hair on this one, like making him a carrot man was a good idea. I opted for something else but I somehow couldn't not paint him in weird colours for some reason.
I reckon this one got a weird STD from a boozy intercourse in the back alley of a grim bar on some remote planet, he's never mentionned it, trying to casually act like nothing's out of ordinary.
This one gets my neurodivergent traits tingling, like how does his mouth work this way ? So many unanswered questions ...
I love the chicken punk, he's probably the one I would have loved the most without weapons just to get him on every urban table, photobombing in the background.
And here we are ! Those were a blast to paint, if like me you love that sort of stuff, I can only encourage you to go have a look at Mike's store HERE.
Happy summer to you all !
Brilliant! I remember these guys fondly from Rogue Trader, and you've made a great job of painting them. They remind me of the times when 40k and 2000 AD were quite close. Really nice painting too. They look like individuals but would work as a mob of rebels.
ReplyDeleteThanks ! I really wanted them too look like individuals but to work with one another. They really do have a strong Judge Dredd/Strontium Dog feel to them, I love that 40k/2000AD crossover Rogue Trader had going
