Alright, I knew I said I had to paint beastmen but you see I knew it would take me way too long to get them both converted and painted... Sooo, I did what one does in such a situation, you just change plans. So I decided to replace them with ogryns. Yes, the guys above are minos but let's not have that sort of petty details in the way of painting cool stuff right ?
To be faire, I can understand why they were just a limited edition. They're just conversion of former C25 Minotaurs aaaaand let's just say the conversions are rather peculiar, just check the angle of the bolter on the left guy below, how it's way too small for his hands or how the other guys has had his gun bent in an S shape to fit both his hands...
But you know that's just how it goes, they're still fantastic models to paint despite their flaws and I had a lot of fun painting them to be honest. They also end up being pretty coherent gear wise which helps sell the idea.
Now of course I had to place a little pop culture reference in the colour scheme if you see what I mean...
I've decided to call them Mosh Pete and Headbang, just because. ^^
Anyway, with the minotaurs done, I only have the orks left to paint to get my full band done ! It won't look like in the realms of chaos boks but I believe it will look good enough on a table with my friends' bands as well !
I love these! I painted up a pair about 10 years ago, sold them and only just acquired replacements. In spite of the shonky sculpting, they couldn't be more RT and I can't wait to paint mine up.
ReplyDeleteI really like the grey skin tone on the lad with the tiny bolter, but my favourite part are the pinky elbows on the paler skinned one. I'd never have thought to do it, but it looks great!
I've been looking for an excuse to paint them for ages, they're 100% RT I agree.
DeleteThe pale skinned one has the elbows and knuckles coloured a bit to break the monotony of large areas of flesh.

ReplyDeleteThe conversions are a bit strange but the base models are excellent so the painting process was very enjoyable which always helps a lot. Although I do see the obvious flaws, I don't care at all and love them unconditionnally !

DeleteThese guys are so ridiculous, but that just adds to their charm. I remember painting mine up a few years ago and it was a delight. You've absolutely nailed it as per usual, and that Champion looks ace too.

DeleteYour last couple of posts have really inspired me to get back on the painting train. It doesn't matter that you didn't paint beastmen, you still knocked out a project; two more great minis added to the collection. I need to adopt this approach more in my own scheduling. I just need to paint what is the next most fun thing to paint. That's better than simply procrastinating over what I "should" paint next. Great post and great progress on the warband!
ReplyDeleteThanks, It's always a tricky balance between what you have and want to paint. I usually have stuff I just want to paint for fun along the rest to keep the motivation up. Also, if I have to paint stuff for a game with friends I find it easier than if I have to for self imposed reasons but then I can just change plans. ^^

DeleteI remember seeing these in WD, etc, but never in person/in the shop back in the day. Very cool to see them done and finished to a modern standard - I don't think I've ever even seen them painted!

You've done these up a treat. I like the goofiness of him holding a normal sized bolter in his big hammy ham ham fist, it emphasises his size and sells the monster as a dim brute pointing things at the enemy he's seen other troopers pointing and trying to join in. Cow monster thinks he's people!
ReplyDeleteGreat job painting these in the natural tones. You're knocking out a lot of netural warm colours at the moment like the leather harness straps.
Knowing they're conversions of standard fantasy minotaurs helps soothe the pain of knowing I'm unlikely to ever find a pair of these – cos we can all make very similar models from. Helpful if you ever fancy bulking out the unit too!

DeleteI'm glad you nticed teh colours, I opted for a different leather approach to avoid clashing with the dark tones below.
It is very tempting now to just get regular minos and give them RTB01 missile launchers or flamers !
