Chaos orks and a complete Realm of Chaos Warband !

Just a week after Jon finished his warband, here is the last unit in my warband : the chaos orks !
I have to be honest and say I pretty much painted those guys along the minotaurs and the renegade but by painting the colours in the right order, I could progressively get some of the models out of the paint queue and get a feeling of progress !

For the chaos orks I picked pretty much what I could find and tried to make them look a bit darker than my usual orks with a paler skintone and a dark outfit. Of course plenty of the RT orks have the WW2 theme going on so I tried to channel that into making them look sinister as well.

The leader is a Blood Axe boss by Kev Adams and just a fantastic model, with everything you can exepct from the goblin master, it's neat, clever and full of character, just perfect ad a joy to paint !

Next are a varied bucnh of classic RT orks, mostly Perry's I reckon EDIT : Kev Adam's as well, with a few conversions here and there. Some of the models showed their age with flattened details and those kind of damage but overall they were really pleasant and all of them are perfectly unique chich is really nice !

I'm really glad to be able to say my warband is now complete (the objective marker is missing from the shot, sorry). It doesn't look extremely menacing but numbers should make up for competence I hope !
Now I just want to grab a drink and pop-corn and watch my friends getting their own band DONE.

  1. While I'm not a great fan of all these sculpts, I have to admit that I'm a great fan of the blue-grey hue you've given to the skin tones.
Ovberall, a very 'nice' warband ;)

    1. To be fair, I think the sculpts wouldn't have worked with my brighter colour scheme for regular orks but with a more sinister touch it works wonders I find. Thanks mec !

  3. The blue-green skin is the first indication that these are not standard orks. And then you start to see a tail here, and a cyclopean eye or hooved foot there. These are not raving chaotic monstrosities but the subtle sense of chaos is clearly there!

A lovely unit and the perfect close to a fantastic warband. I can't wait to see them!

    1. Like you did for your own band, I felt a little sense of measure could go to great lengths on this one.
I'm really looking forward to all of us gathering with the bands now !

  4. Glorious warband! The orks work great, they look much grimmer with the more desaturated palette. It looks the business all together too. Plus, chaos squats. I've not seen many painted examples, and certainly not as nice as these.

    1. I wanted a strong contrast with my other orks who're on the more colourful/cheerful side, like alwaysn Orks are the gift that keeps on giving !

  5. Great-looking warband and a lovely colour scheme! The subtle conversions are great.

The earlier orks are all by Kev Adams too. I prefer them to his later work - a bit less cartoony. You've certainly done them justice here!

  6. These are excellent.
I love the mix of colours you have used, the pale blue flesh looks very creepy. The choice of the blue flesh, blue-ish uniforms, and the stark red, really works well. The rusty equipment is a nice addition. The conversion of the one-eyed Ork is great.

    1. Thanks Lee, I have to say I've always kept your ork army in mind so opted for military colours for the jackets. The pale skin was a way of creating a contrast with otherwise dark colours and to make them look corrupted and sick; I had something closer to white in mind at first but it would have clashed to hard with the rest.
Glad to get the approval from the Goblin Prince ! ^^

The skin tone seems to work for everyone so that feels snice !

  12. Chaos Orks! Yours are conceptually in the goldilocks one where they're not too mutated to look cringe, but visually different enough from your standard Orks to be shunned by mainstream Ork society as "wrong uns". Really smitten by your paintscheme here. And I like how the bulk of the unit are the early RT Orks before they go all plastic-goof-arms.

I've been painting the one converted into a cyclops, and I'm glad to see your casting has a slightly sideways nose too! I always thought mine was damaged, but it must be the sculpt or original moulds.

This is a lovely warband. You've really thought through the colours, and the vibrant Marine trophies help reinforce their muted tones.

    1. Thanks, I did want them to be just a little twisted, it's so easy to go overboard with orks and since my ragulr orks are gaudy and eye-catching, I wanted those to be moody and sinister.
I was worried the marine trophies would clash from being too bright but I wanted them to stand from the rest, I considered weathering them a bit more but it would have made them hard to read I reckon.
Thanks for noticing the little thoughts I had in mind during painting !

    1. C'est pour une campagne de warband donc on va débloquer à chaque partie une nouvelle unité et de nouveaux pouvoirs pour finir avec la bande au complet (moins les pertes) !
