Yolandai - Nomad Boss Lady

Coming out of nowhere, here's another model that just jumped to the top of the paint queue in the blink of an eye.
Like the other years, I wanted to take part in Morikun's painting competition and I therefore needed a female model to paint since the theme of the competition is to paint an image of what his wife could be like in our fantasy worlds.
Like many of you, I do have plenty of female figures to paint but I had just received one which for some reason made a lot of sense. I actually had the very best idea when the comp started but I totally forgot what it was. You can be sure I'll remember as soon as it ends.

Anyway, the model is a sculpt by James Sherriff from Brass Monkey and if you've read some of Kal Jerico's tales in the past, it might evoke some interesting character :

The character is Yolanda Callatus and has a cool background, like often though I don't fancy named characters in my games and hence needed to change her identity into one of mine

Fair dose of girl power between those 2...
Now to give her some more identity, I didn't have to go very far, everything was in her name of the original character...
The look ad hair immediately made me think about someone else :

I had "the answer" if you'll excuse me this terrible pun. Oh and wait, you know what ? Best part is I had the rules all ready as well, already published in Gang War 2 :

There's a point where there are just no coincidences anymore. Yolandai she is, a freak cast out of her family in the hive and she's found her place in the wastes, I'm real interested to see her story develop in the games she's going to take part in !

Now just for fun here she is along the 2 other entries I've done for Morikun's competition and while you'll easily understand why they never won the first place, they've done well enough and were a nice way to take part in his events.

Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines, there a a few coming my way so I'd better focus if I don't want to look like a fool !
There's plenty of cool stuff ahead so that's all for the better !

  4. I keep seeing these amazing private commission figs pop up. So envious of the folks that manage to get in on them. I imagine the costs of a private commission are pretty steep? Or are many of them self sculpted?

    1. It's usually a matter of hangin around the right places on facebook. ^^
It's often just a matter of selling a few copies to pay the production more than a commercial thing really.

  7. she's come up very nicely indeed. As you say, she can fulfil a number of roles, depending on what takes your fancy. She can also join in with Helsreach mercenaries with her white eye-band :)

You now need to paint a not-Jerico and Skabbs to hang around with her!

  8. Very nice take on Yolandi Visser. I like naming my own characters, just sucks when they die.

  12. When I spotted the name of the post and the first image of the figure in my feed my mind went straight to Die Antwoord, glad I was on the ball with that one :D

Very, very nice figure, lovely paint job, great work sir!

I think she complements your heavy in the final image really well, they look like they could very well be working together in a warband.

It helps that they look like they are observing the same thing in the distance.
