Papa was a rolling unclean one - Rogue trader Great Unclean One

And just to finish this first tale of several gamers, here's a Greater demon of Nurgle with a Rogue Trader twist !
Having already painted a Bloodthirster and a Keeper of Secrets I still had 2 left to paint to complete my pantheon so I thought painting the fat papa would be cool to go with the palanquin I had just finished !

Like the others, the conversion was an old one don during holidays 2 years ago :

Painting wise I've fallen into a trap I usually try to avoid by all means ! I don't really fancy big models with a large area of the same colour, it looks dull to me. So when I worked on the skin of this big fella, I tried to give it many nuances to represent a decaying skin and make it more interesting. Problem is, it still looks too uniform to my taste...
I think I should have painted larger areas in different colours instead of making it subtle. Now he looks like an old turd on a cheelchair which is a good think I suppose but not exactly what I had in mind either.
Well he's done anyway so that's the main thing !

Just one Greater Demon left to do and I'll have the main pantheon covered ! Isn't it great ? ^^

After ending a few commitments recently, I'll go back to all friends I've neglected for way too long !

  1. Lovely conversion! I particularly like the suitably unwholesome bit of machinery embedded in his back. Are the tracks from an Admech battle servitor?

    1. Good spot, it is ! I thought you cannot really go too gross with Nurgle so embedded the generator unto his spine. ^^
      Thanks !

    2. The grosser the better! I'm impressed at how well the very old metal pieces fit with the recent plastics. It's a really nice conversion - it reminds me to paint up my old Keeper of Secrets sometime.

  3. That is ace! Grotesque and pustulent, just as he should be. These RT versions of the classic greater daemons are a brilliant new take. I can't believe I've never seen anyone do it before. Bravo!

  4. As nice as the rest of the Greater demons are, this one has been my favourite since I spied it in the background of a photo you sent, slim delighted to see him with slap of colour on! Hes like the end boss in a 90s shoot em up, and that's a very good thing as far as I'm concerned

  6. He's a brilliant conversion JB! I reckon the best so far IMHO. Imagine that ugly fucker chasing you down across the battlefield :D

How's the weight distribution on him though? Is he pretty top heavy on the base?

    1. I still love the idea but don't think the implementation is up to it. NUrgle gets away with anything though.
The model is a bit top heavy obviously but well centered enough on a large base to avoid any real issue with it.

  8. Even if he still had his stubby little GUO legs, I think he'd want to ride in style on some tracks instead.

Corking result mate. I like the drab uniformness personally.

    1. I've heard he actually severed his own legs and jumped into a tank... might be a made up story but it might not... Noone knows.

    1. I've taken a picture of everything I've done for this To4G and one with all my oldschool chaos but none are really nice. They do give the sens of size it has reached though. ;)

  11. A crippled Unclean One is something you don't see everyday! I don't think the skin looks dull at all, in fact I think the whole thing looks geart in all its decay. Pretty cool.

  12. Nicely done. As other posters have commented, he is very reminiscent of a Quake-type boss i.e. extra points for the nostalgia he evokes

  13. Love your Great Unclean One conversion and the skin tone is very nice. You know, I always find that I like everyone else' Nurgle painting than my own...
