So this is March, month of Mars, like in the God. So what better month to paint titans ? None, that's right.
Now I've had the will to paint in a different scale for quite a while but like all the good plans and bright ideas, I've always postponed it because of better newer projects.
I actually modified the titan a bit, giving it cables to feed the arm weapons and turning its neck on the side and replacing its square neck with cables and fancier stuff.
I also wanted the base to be quite fun, like a mini diorama since the model will very unlikely be used to play (I do NOT intend to start an army or any Epic project, ooooh no, I don't...) I was kindly offered a few bits to decorate my base in the form of a few marines and a rhino.
You might have noticed I've opted for a rather worn out and weathered look, because I don't think I've seen many like that and because I thought it looked cool !
I finally decided I didn't want a banner but like often, I'm still unsure, Maybe I could try one and see how it looks, I'm always afraid to overdo things a tad and go ridiculous. On a giant beetle shaped robot painted in red yes...
I know I said I didn't want to get involved more than with one model in Epic, I know, I'm super serious about it. But just look at this...
Oh and of course I've kept the base fully functionnal...
Aaaaaanywaaaaaayyyy, I'm really glad I made this one, and finally painted something else than what I usually do. The process was quite peculiar and I was missing some references since I usally paint in autopilot mode but it was actually a very interesting and rewarding experience, I'm eager to try it on a bigger scale like 54mm stuff now.
Absolutely stunning mate! I've got some of these sat stripping, I wanted to jazz them up with cables, more details, weathering too.

This one will be cabinet fodder as well but I wanted to tick that line off the bucket list. Of course, I do want to paint me some Goodwin titans now... :/

DeleteConsidering the scale that model goes from great to off the charts. That wound dial is the coolest as well. Fantastic idea

It's a void shield counter. Each hit knocks one down, no body damage until it's at zero.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your choice to leave out the banner. A big, colourful banner might distract from all the subtler details in the model and your paintjob.
I'm being peer pressured to add a banner but although I'm considering it, I'll only make the decision if it really is a significant plus.
DeleteThe basing is pretty simple in the end, since I only added a few model to give a sense of scale, I think it serves its purpose though so I'm glad I did it. ^^

Superb mate - I never played (or collected) epic, but the photos & art in WD were always a joy. The Warlord is just so iconic of that time, and yours is beautifully done - high fives dude!

Delicious! The cabling has really helped to modernise the model. Silly though it might seem, my favourite element is the teeny tiny marines. It really sells the whole thing as a massive behemoth of a war machine.

Fantastic! Always love seeing the old beetlebacks make an appearance. If FW ever did a 40k-scale Warlord in that pattern my wallet would be doomed!

DeleteNice JB. If you do a banner, why not keep it small, or thin and twining about in an imaginary wind? Less likely to distract from your lovely scheme if it's smaller in scale?
