Despite the pause for other subjects, the cult has been gathering forces... This time, I wanted to have something a little stranger and a bit weirder (yes, stranger and weirder than alien hybrids I know). Something a bit more sinister that would use the roots of genestealer covens.
Thankfully, I had the chance to grab this lovely pair (still talking about models here) from a private commission.
These have been sculpted by Bob Olley from concepts drawn by the excellent David Stafford from Denizen's illustrations.
With those guys done, I suppose that the next step here would be to paint a few purebreeds and possibly the father of the all coven as well... Exciting times ! ^^
I'm really glad to be able to dig this slightly different angle of the hybrid lore.
Oh and there might be a little more behind my motivations for painting this couple but this will have to wait, just check the scale creep... ;)
The clock is ticking till the end of the year but I feel 2016 still has a few models in its guts. ;)
Oh, very well done! As I recall civilians members were suggested in the original prose. This all fits together very very nicely. I like your take on the Great Church of the Hexapodal Messiah very much indeed. The orange has surprised me from the very beginning, being so far distant from the classic genestealer palette, but it works. And you have used it very very well. Bravo!

DeleteVery interesting couple of minis there JB. I like the aesthetic a lot! It'd make a great set piece/diorama to have an eclectic bunch of "family" members comprised of these guys, sitting around a campfire or coven den.

Great family! I love the little child with his cuddly stealer. Funnily enough, I wasn't sure if the mum was sci-fi enough, but I'm reconsidering now I've scrutinised your paint jobs!!

DeleteI had completely missed the stuffed stealer the child was carrying on first inspection. There's a wealth of detail in this little family. Quite the story. My hat is off to Olley and the artist who conceived them as well. I'm liking them better and better as I look more.
DeleteThe mom is definitely sci fi enough for 40k, since the common people are basically medieval peasants with some advanced technology.

DeleteGreat concept and execution! The mom in particular has a nice "crazed" look that could alternatively be her lack of sleep from a newborn, or the residual effect of the genestealer parent.

DeleteWords cant' begin to describe how wonderful these minis are. i find GW fluff interesting yet their miniatures only focus on the brutal aspects of their universe which is a big miss I think. Those scuplts are juste wonderful and, just like every time, your painting is just awesome. Almost a great nativity scene !

Olley's faces are always so large. But characterful, so the largeness can be forgiven almost exclusively.
