Colony 87 Priestess

That's 5 out of 6 now ! The new model for the coming Colony87 range by Jon/Axiom is a priestess, We've explored many types of characters so far so after those who work and those who study, here are those who pray (we already have plenty of those who fight).

Sketch by Will Beck
Priestesses are a concept we find in plenty of iconic sci-fi settings, think about the Bene-Gesserit in Dune or the Shabda-Ouds in the Metabarons, they're a sort of equivalent of the sorceress of fantasy but with a cosmic dimension !

Painting wise, I've tried to opt for something simple and pure with complementary colours. I'm a little puzzled by how the purple looks on the robe to be honest, the photo doesn't help much but although I tried to lift it with glazes, it hasn't reached the vibrance I wanted... Maybe I'll try some inks...

The cat is orange because I thought it would look good with the purple and because it shows it's an alien species.

So that's only one model left to finish that range (how often can one claim to have painted a whole range of anything ?) and with the remaining 3 of the first wave left to do I can aim at having a whole brand painted (how cool would that be)

So here it is, I hop you'll enjoy her and her companions, I'm eager to get them all done to paint some fantasy for a bit of fresh air and then... and then I'll have some more models for people I like ;)

  1. She's lovely JB. I like the soft lilac robe with the cream cloak and dark skin. I like the contrast and pop from her orange space cat!

I'm very much in love with this model :)

    1. Cheers, I like the colour scheme as well but wish I had pushed the contrasts a bit more as they tend to get flattened on pictures. I've painted arm gloves on here but I guess one could jus tas well paint arm bracelets and bare arms. There ar eplenty of opportunities i'd like to try on this one actually.

    1. I totally agree, I'd really like to paint here and the noble from Wave 1 in a dark colour à la Bene-Gesserit.

  3. Stunning PJ as always, and on such a lovely figure!

Can't wait for this KS to start, I can think of a use for every single model. Any idea roughly when it's happening?

    1. There are plenty of them for which I could have picked a totally different set of colours really. Huge potential with those.
The KS is starting at the end of Febuary.
      Cheers ;)

  4. The more I see, the more I love the colony87 range ! The minis are awesome yet simple and very characterful and not battle oriented, your smooth painting fits them really well.
Having the whole line painted would definitely fill a gaming table (and a painting desk) with greatness :)

    1. Cheers, I realise from the distance it lacks a bit of contrast but the general tone works fine with teh rest here.

  7. Yeah, really like the Dune-esque feel of this lady. Once again, your soft palette accentuates the details. Gyrinx is also a very nice touch.

    1. Yeah it seems it all reminds us of Dune and we all see a good Bene-Gesserit here ! It was a tempting way to go but I chose something else since this one is meant for display in the Kickstarter, the dark version would have been standing too much from the rest. I have no worry about the fact it's going to be done sooner rather than later. ;)

      Thanks !

  8. Nice work as always. I particularly like the skin tone, and the dress under the cowl.

That the 5th figure is a priestess is a change, and it makes me wonder what the 6th will be...

    1. Well I'm the first to paint them so I'm to taking them that far really ^^. To be honest there plenty of other places they can be brought and I'm really looking forward to those PJs I didn't try and that will get done.
