More limited edition Santas, Frostgrave and Asgard !

It seems Christmas doesn't stop on the 25th of December... which is good. I mean , we can all do with a nice gift or present every now and then right ? Well Just yesterday, I received a very nice gift from the most excellent Stuart Bannister

I could have expected it since I sent him the model in the first place but I didn't expect it to arrive just the day after Christmas. Well I could... since the model is Sanity claws after all. Only thing is I hadn't really taken that into account when I sent it to him to paint.

Stuart kindly offered to paint a model for some of his readers and I was lucky to be in the lot so I gave him a model I had failed to finish. It seems the model proved as tricky with him as it was for me but Stuart managed to finish it which I didn't

My version never got past that stage...
I feel really sorry for 2 things : the model is a bitch to paint really, I mean, he sculpt is nice but it's just too damn complicated to figure out what's what and once you paint the cloak in red, you're pretty much screwed for other colours... I think Stuart really did a great job and avoided the trap with a clever skintone that's both greenish but also very pale. I really like that you can find some of his own palette on this model, some colours I'd never think of using. Greatly appreciated !

What I didn't appreciate AT ALL though was how the postmen involved in the transport handled this model :

The base has been torn so first thing I did was to bend it back into shape and glue it in place :

I then filled the base with Green stuff and made it fill the gaps left.

A day after that, all I had to do was to remove the excess of putty and the torn plastic parts before a little filing and sanding to find a proper base.

I used Stuart's recipe to redo the basing with PVA and baking Soda and here we are. I just couldn't stand to have this model in such a state. Now I have 2 Limited Edition models based on Santa... Careful boy, do NOT think any further ! Collecting all of them is NOT an option...

God thing is, I have plenty of stuff to think about as Santa brought me a very nice present :

I bought the french version which is VERY well translated (rare enough to be noticed) and the game seems like good fun. Best of it all is that I have exactly what's required to make a group for the game : Those jes Goodwin barbarians from the old Asgard range I bought from Alternative Armies for next to nothing  !

I'll paint them one after the other when I feel like it, just like I did for the champions of Law, that way I know O won't get bored and the sculpts are all quite different so it should be good fun !

I might have a little more painted lead before the ned of the year so watch this space ;)

  2. Cool stuff! Just saw Sanity Claws at Stuart's blog and I love it!
I also got Frostgrave earlier this year, but didn't manage even to open the rulebook :(
I had plans of having a couple of bands for Christmas, but in the end it's been impossible. But at some point I'll make a Santa Claus band with Elves and a Three Wise Men band with pages to see them smashing each other while trying to recover presents for the children :D

    1. I would love to see such a group ! Frostgrave isn't very difficult to read or a chore, it's straight to the point and simple, a really good toolbox I have yet to try though !

  3. Very nice restoration on Sanity Claws JB, phew! Like you, I got a copy of Frostgrave for crimbo too... looks like a cracking game to me :-) There must be something wrong with my brain though, I've been pondering whether I could get away with a RT Frostgrave warband (still fired up from RogueQuest I expect!)

    1. Nothing worng with your head mate, I just thought yesterday the system could be directly used as is by telling bows are lasguns and bolter Xbows or something, having a war of psykers in the underhive would be very cool : Hivegrave !

  4. Great stuff JB. Sanity Claws looks like he'll be leaving more than coal in children's stockings.

    1. Cheers, I think it is safer not to wonder too much about what he might be leaving in other people's socks...
