The Four Starter Heroes - Warhammer Quest Darkwater

Hey all ! So after taking a little detour back to Blackstone Fortress (which I'm really glad I did since we've now played several games or it), I'm finally back on track with Darkwater !
Of course, 3 months later, ut is no longer the hot topic and the world has moved on with it but I'm not a trend chaser so I can live with that  fine.
Now of course I neeed a plan, so I decided to follow the the same plan as Ash from GMG and build the first heroes and villains I needed :

Now like usual, once I'm set on painting such a project, I avoid box art and source material to just do things how I feel them.

So the first in line was obviously the pompous Edmark Valoran, I went for something real straightforward here and it turns out it just looks like the boxart (in terms of colour choices of course)
with only a few minor differences. It's a powerful sculpt, great pose, it does have annoying places that are hard to reach for people who dislike subassemblies like me but all in all, it's a very pleasant sculpt.
I haven't tested it next to oldhammer models to see how disproportionate it is but it does feel on the bigger side.

Next is Inara Sion, really nice model which reminds me of the bretonian damsel from 5th ed. I actually went for a different style, to make her feel closer to nature, something real simple.

Then we have Bren Tylis who is the one I had the most doubts about. I first had no real idea about where to go colour wise. I did want her to feel different from Edmark and then I opted for something that uses elements from Galadriel in the rings of power show.
The idea from the start was to keep it simple so no OSL on the lantern, no freehands (the stripes on the trousers might be the only fancy thing I've done on any of the 4).

And finally, Drolf Ironhead, unmistakenly dwarf from the top of his head to the tip of his feet. I love how bulky but agile he looks. I would have liked the beard to be a little more flamboyant but I guess I got that itch scratched with the spectacular mane of hair on his colleague...

So now it's time to move onto some villains and test the game a bit, the Kelpies are gonna be really quick to fnish and they're the ones I need first so with a week of holidays ahead, expect them soon !

Happy painting to you all !

  1. These look great. Liking the subdued schemes very much.
Wasn’t blown away by the “book o floorplans” so did not purchase personally, but there are some really cool sculpts in this game. Can’t wait to see what you do with the Nurgle figs

    1. I agree the book of floor plans has me a bit puzzled but having played quite a few games of blackstone now, , I must say sorting tiles to set up the board is not the most fun part of the game so that saves time I guess
      Thanks !

  2. Good job on the heroes. I love how you kept them "sober".
And dwarfs green and blue are the best :D
That's how I painted my armies of these beardy folks
