OK so recently I've had a huge interest because of my friend Curis's excellent marines and the relase of the 5th chapter of Astartes, now that meant I had an itch to paint some and the only way to scratch was to do these 2 Death eagles kindly donated by my friend Adrien.
Now of course I'm missing the third one with plasma gun :
I didn't really have plans for those so I thougt the most obvious way to go was to make them scythes of the emperor to go with my terminators.
Since I'm a complete moron, I obviously forgot to check with the terminators nearby and when I reached the yellow parts, I decided it wasn't bright enough and glazed them a bit to boost them, only to realise I had decided not to do that on the terminators hence he annoying change of tone between the 2 (and I definitely prefer the yellow on the terminators).
But hey, they're painted and I'm pleased, this won't help me resist the will to paint a squad of scouts though...
In the meantime, have fun asn stay safe all !
Really nice marines.
ReplyDeleteI deeply love their background.
One of the better part is in an old nids codex (4th I think), when the chapter is reduced to a sole sergeant 😉
I remember they had a battle card for Space amrine 2/titan legion in a WD or something or maybe a scenario about them getting slaughtered, anyway, they've always been a firm favourite, thanks mec !
DeleteTo this day, I'm not entirely sure what the Death Eagle Marines were, or why they were anything that particularly stood out, other than being a perhaps a proto MkVII set of armour. A couple of the Librarian models of the era have very similar armour, and would slip in nicely - I can well imagine a Librarian leading a strike squad into a Tyranid hive ship.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, from here, the yellow is pretty much not noticeable. They do look great though - I love the beaten and battle-stained look, and you can't beat the classic Scythes colour scheme.
Bring on those scouts!
I always loved the mistery around them, I supposed librarians could be a good thing to add indeed !
DeleteNow I need to source scouts I guess ^^
Those are great paint jobs on a real sweet spot for marine design.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the more saturated yellow. It gives a saturated/desaturated contrast that the terminators lack.
It made sense when I boosted the yellow for that very reason but I only remebered late that I had made the other choice, the terminators' yellow looks better up close but it works better on the marines I reckon.
DeleteThanks !
Cracking pair of Death Eagles. I like all the little touches on the armour, like the checks and fire pattern and the NO ENTRY sign on his butt. And I like how you've rendered the shoulder eagle in bronze rather than gold so it doesn't clash with the yellow of the armour.
ReplyDeleteI've also accidentally changed the intensity of colour on Space Marines between squads, I know your pain.
Man I love how you notice the little details !
DeleteI wanted a warm metal to avoid havig yellow on yellow. I'm annoyed by the colour difference because it's entirely because I was lazy to get the terminators out for reference and relied exclusively on memories..., that's a lesson for the rest, thanks a lot !
I've got that third one you can have, sweetie. :3
ReplyDeleteThat's hard to resist !
DeleteYou mean the Space Crusade scouts, right? Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteFirst ed metal scouts more likely but yes the punk squire scouts indeed ! ^^
DeleteI always loved these models. Nice work on them! The colour difference is not that noticeable (uniformity is overrated), I think they all look great together!
ReplyDeleteWell maybe I shouldn't even have mentionned it then ! ^^
DeleteThanks a lot man !
Did not know one of them had an emergency poop-releaser oO
ReplyDeleteAnyway, guess you're on to a new full army now. i can feel a scratchbuild whirldwind or sabre and an RT dreadnought coming soon..
No vehicles, that's almost a given, or maybe ust a dread but no more, the scouts are the only sure thing at this point because they have to be !
DeleteForgive me for my ignorance but these aren't the new GW minis are they? They look old school and as such look way, way more cooler.
ReplyDeleteThese were an odd release between 1st and 2nd ed and therefore have a bit of both going on, niche range but adorable 😁
