Studio/9/art give away !

Blogging about models I didn't paint myself is kinda of lame I know but this one was one I won during one of Studio/9/art's give aways !
The model is a converted Goblin King from the Hobbit set with tyrannid pieces and it's been skillfully painted by Stéphane Guèbe.
What else can I say about it apart that I love it ?
Honestly, it's the kind of model I'd never be able to think of on my own and the skin is definitely miles away from anything I can achieve right now.

The washes and glazes really give that model such a depth it realy makes me want to work on those kind of techniques. It is time consuming and therefore something I tend to avoid but for some important models, I definitely think this is the kind of technique i'd like to have in the toolbox.

Since I alway tend to paint with games in mind, I'm seriously considering converting a few goblins from the same set to give him a proper retinue. I won't rebase him or do any modifications but I'm sure he'll make a nice alien boss.

I strongly advise you to check Studio/9/art's page for plenty of cool models of all kinds !

  1. That certainly is a gorgeous looking miniature (!?!). Well done on winning it.

I agree that level of technique could never be achieved on the majority of miniatures you game with but it would be fabulous to have that level of skill set. . . Maybe one day?

  2. Congratulations on winning the beast JB.

I'd love to have a miniature painted to an incredibly high level, just to have as a reference...something to aim for.

    Cool stuff man :)

    1. It's honestly very cool for that reason, I can see which parts I know I could do and which parts I know I couldn't.

  3. Wow! Lucky lucky you. That guy would look fantastic on any hobbyist's display shelf.

  4. That painting is on this is bloody impressive. The bits bash.... not so. But then I think it's because Tyranid bits are so identifiable to me, so they end up mostly looking out of place on other models. Still, it's a lovely piece and you definitely deserve congrats on winning it mate!

  5. That skin is exquisite. But it's not so far from anything that you could paint, JB. When I first looked at it, I took it for granted that it was one of yours. Anyway, I hope you enjoy his massive nastiness.

    1. I could definitely do something but huge blends with glazes like here are definitely out of my scope and ability for now, the result proves it's a technique worth spending time though. ^^
      Thanks.
