Asgard Barbarian - Model exchange program

Some time ago, I managed to do a model exchange program. My mission was to take care of Hess poisonbreath in exchange for this classic Barbarian from Jes Goodwin when he worked for Asgard.
So a little time ago, I got this guy in the post.

I do have a few models painted by others now and I have to say I'm quite fond of them. Seeing how others do things differently from my way is very refreshing and inspiring I find. I love the deep tones used for the skin, from a deep pink to a very bright bone colour. The base is also very nice and evocative, there's something from the old Blanche illustrations there which I fancy a lot.

The greenish cloak is also very far from anything I' d think of and is therefore very cool to see.
The model also cruely reminded me I had started a Frostgrave band with those barbarians and that I have yet to finish the band.

It's quite funny to see how my skintones seem like yellows when placed next to a model with more pinkish hues.

After a few excellent days in Budapest last week, I'll try to get back behind the brushes and get a few projects done if time and energy allow it.
In the meantime, have fun !

  1. Amazing painting on these old figures...and great blog. Blogger is not letting me follow at the moment (not sure why) but I'll keep looking in. Cheers

    2. Sadly, in some ways Blogger is a totally rubbish platform. In others, not. Don't even get me started on their app. Good lord.

Anyway, this guy's nice. Not flashy, but nice. He looks like a person. He does make your guys look a bit jaundiced, but maybe they just ate some spoiled bear meat or something.

  2. Really like that green cloak. It is an unusual choice, but a great one.

I've never done a painting exchange. Hrm...

    1. I think the colours really state "late 80's" more than anything I'm able of, I really like that.
I haven't done many exchanges but the few I have are pieces I'm really fond of. ^^

    1. I find the use of washes really gives a great depth to the base, definitely something I'll try to use in the future.

    1. Not my work but the resemblance with He-man has been mentionned before, I should get another one and paint it exactly like He-man !
