I realise the last models I've produced were not really old lead and though this is in no way a problem, I just wanted to ceize a few opportunities to get some old lead painted in between a couple of cool things I'm working on at the moment.
This model is the stout dwarf warrior from the renowned BC1 adventurers Starter set :
Just watch that good face, isn't he lovely? You can see him all quiet and calm for the time being but just throw an orc or a goblin in the same room and you get meat all over the place.
As I said this one comes from the BC1 adventurer set :

You may also remember I recently painted the Devout Cleric from the very same set (SEE HERE)
But what are the opportunities I ceized to get this one finished some of you might ask (those will havea pretty good short term memory), well first of all, Colin launched a very interesting challenge on the Oldhammer forum : The 100 club. That means anyone willing to participate must send one picture based on the chosen theme. The theme for this first challenge is "I've never painted a...".
You may have understood that I had never actually painted a dwarf before, well not a fantasy one at least !
The second opportunity for which I needed a dwarf is that I am engaged with Captain Crooks in a remote game GMed by Oldhammer superstar Zhu Bajiee on the Forum as well and I needed a model to embody Abdul Eisenstein.
This game is an arena of Death where we will throw our champion to prove their worth :

Now who will win ? Abdul Eisenstein ? Suferin Strongwind ? ONly Gods (and dice) can tell...
Vs
Next, probably some vertically challenged adventurer but from a totally different dimension...
Nice work there. Like the rosy nose on him.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I kinda rushed on this one. I realise I 've left a black spot on the handle and a red one on the base :/
DeleteAnyway he was a great model to paint, glad you like him !
Thanks
I agree - nice red nose. The deep red armour works a treat too, and I love the helmet.
ReplyDeleteAre you planning to run through the whole set?
In due time yes, I still have the paladin half done (can't seem to find the courage to do the shield), I also have the monster set to complete (missing the ogre and chaos warrior) and paint too.
DeleteThans a lot !
Excellent work. Never realised he had all that baggage strapped to his back though! Also, extra points for hex basing.
ReplyDeleteI just can't think of another more elegant way to base fantasy adventurers really ! Painting that one was actually a discovery as I hadn't noticed those details before either. Those challenges are reall a nic eway to give some attention to some remote parts of the leadpile.
DeleteWhooops long time no comment. What a lovely wee model. I can't believe you painted his eyes through the helmet slits!
ReplyDeleteThanks ! It wasn't that hard really, the sculpt is very finely detailed and the eyes are easy to reach. You just need to keep a steady hand for a couple of seconds for each eye ;)
DeleteNice painting as always , I've not seen his like before, thanks for sharing, is his opponent Felix jaeger from gotrex and Felix ?
ReplyDeleteNot quite Mr Cigarettes, though Felix shopped at the same trouser store. The opponent is a generic Sylvan elf painted to look like my vision of a sea-elf, all gaudy colours and stripes with a little bling. Felix is on my list to paint though, he is a great figure. ..
DeleteYeah, I think we can all agree Felix definitely stole everything from Sufferin the brave sea-elf !
DeleteThanks ;)
Oh, he is brilliant. Very well done. I love the tartan on his shoulder and the colors are fabulous. Also, a spectacular job on his face. Bravo sir.
ReplyDeleteThanks ! I realise it's often my escape path to paint tartan on fabric when I don't know what to do but I believe for such model it suits fine. Glad you love the face, I thought I overdid the red nose a little but hey, a piante done is a good one right?
DeleteI second the compliments on the plaid shoulder piece- top notch work there. This is one of my absolute favorite dwarf models- great details on the backpacks and the face is wonderful. You've done a great job as usual bringing him to life.
ReplyDeleteThanks ! Glad you like it, it was a quick job but a fun one. By the way I think I just saw a pot of Hawk turquoise on my table and realised I don't use it that much if it's of use to you.
DeleteSurely Abdul will smash the elf ponse into the ground yeah?
ReplyDeleteI like his red skull cap JB, makes him look like some sort of dwarf super hero :)
Lovely.
Of course he will, I'm just trying to pretend there's challenge here out of respect for my Bro Crooks but for real this will be one huge one sided massacre. He's a hero already, he'll jsut be "super" when he gets out of that arena ;)
DeleteThanks.
He's a better fig than I thought. I hadn't seen the back end of him either; nicely detailed. A good effort here, JB. Just spotted a bit of tartan on him as well. Don't know what I'd go for that I hadn't painted ever previously. Probably a skaven or a genestealer.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the whole set is wonderful with charcterful and very fine models. It's true they ar ea bit generic (that was intended) but they paint well. It' the reason why I chose to paint him an enameled armour to change a little. With tartan, it helps to bring another dimension to the sculpt I think rather than satying on a steel armour with a green cloak.
DeleteIf the challenge was about 40k I would probably have gone for a genestealer myself.
Thanks a lot Ed.
